Any gear can use strong attacks. A mere +20 that Bear Skill offers is not much. Bear school skill wastes the slot. Of course the signs are no & bombs useless if you never learned how to make a build and use them. A Manticore build can, with only two Grapeshots, kill NG+ Deathmarch Frog Prince & Caretaker too. End these normally long fights in 5 seconds. But if you knew that, I guess you wouldn't write stuff like bombs being worthless. As for signs, well, one could fight Skull icon Guards with melee (deadly precision, bleeding, poison blades etc) but the best, smoothest & expense free way will always be a high intensity Igni that burns the fu*kers to ash, 3 at a time. Alt. Signs also offer much needed variety to gameplay, basicly are extra moves in your sleeves, like whirl & rend. Puppet a wolf from afar, soon as you see the letters above it and enjoy it mauling to death its own pack. Alt. Yrden to zap enemy arrows and so on.
