TL;DR - this is the first game in fifteen years of using Steam for which I have requested a refund.

The controls make this game at best difficult to play, and at worst impossible. The lack of any real tutorial for the controls is part of the problem, though trial and error can help get past some of this (since when is "grip" the "use" control?).

There is no feedback when you successfully interact with a menu item, which makes changing settings an exercise in frustration.

Using an Oculus Rift with its touch controllers, I was unable to figure out a way to look in the journal. The tutorial panel indicates "right trigger + left/right" to move through pages, but either this can't be used to open the journal, or it simply doesn't work. Holding the trigger and moving either stick left or right simply moves the character. Gesturing left or right doesn't do anything. Trying to grip the journal with the left hand and physically open it doesn't do anything.

Perhaps it isn't possible to open the journal until something is in it? If so, it would be helpful if the game gave any indication that this was the case. Upon retrieving a message from a bottle, I attempted to put that in the journal, to no effect. Perhaps it can't go in the journal.

I am not usually affected by motion sickness in VR games, but smooth movement in this title does seem to make me queasy. That is likely not the developers' fault - and to their credit, they included a teleport option. Except, again, there is no indication of how to use it provided in the game. Experimentation revealed you need left stick click and hold, then aim for your destination. Stick click is a cumbersome control at best, and its use here is questionable.

Interacting with items is abnormally challenging - while most games give you some range from your avatar's hands, the Shore seems to require the hand to fully reach the object. Not insurmountable, but annoying.

None of this seems to be insoluble, but if/unless it's changed, the game is to be avoided.
