this game must perfectly encapsulate the medieval experience of running a city, as playing it was a non-stop slog of trying to manage a city physically incapable of self-sufficiency. people are hungry? great, let's divert workers to food production! (because somehow every citizen you have is just a net negative on every resource, so you can never have a big enough population to fill every job you have and just have to divert workers to jobs as needed). oh darn, now that i'm doing that, there aren't enough barkeeps, clergymen, or doctors, and now everyone is sad and sick. also somehow there is still a food shortage despite being making several hundred food units in the positive this year. best lower my taxes to keep my people happy enough to not revolt! oh now i can't pay the people training my dragons (who are the only feasible way to protect your city sufficiently without being negative in income), and now the viking and dragon attack every seven or so years has arrived and burned my crops and now people are hungry again. repeat ad nauseam.

i definitely don't dislike kingdoms and castles, hence the positive review: it's really cute and super accessible. but for the love of god, don't play on its hard difficulty, it's not hard, it's infuriating, even as someone who tends to be pretty good at city builders.

p.s., some higher density housing and better pathfinding for transporting food would fix a lot of this game's problems.
