A modern classic of the old-school 2D action platformer "metroidvania" genre.

Difficult but rewarding, and unless you have a LOT of time on your hands to solve the many devious riddles in the game, you will need to consult a guide more than a few times to progress.
It's also bloody huge, my playtime clocked in at around 30hrs for a first-time playthrough!

All in all a magnificent game for those that still remember and appreciate retro gaming and don't get discouraged when challenged.
