Tzompantli definitely caught me by surprise. From the uncatchy title to the bizarre character selection I didnt know what I was getting myself into purchasing this game. I heard nothing of this games existance nor did I have any knowledge of the source material, but somehow I found this game strangely entertainig.

The balancing of character is a little off, with some characters having extremly fast normals with huge priority, while characters like Juan Grande have the slowest attacks in the game. Speaking of Juan at first play I thought he was trash, his normals are slow, his specials leave him at a disadvantage, but after finding out he could transform into a magical dog and destroy characters in seconds I was pleasantly surprised. All of the characters are pretty diverse, with the exception of there being too many demon type characters that just fly around.

The graphics have a cell shaded look to them, with character models having a surprising amount of detail, but the backgrounds are missing something. One background in particular stands out as being odd. It is an empty desert back drop, but periodically a bunch of trees drives by... yes drives by. Then at one point the trees drive directly towards the camera and now you're in a jungle. I don't know if this is a glitch or intended but its very strange, my roommate walked in just as this was happening and I had no way of explaining to him what had just transpired.

Despite all the weird stuff, I highly enjoy this game. lots of infinite combos, and loops but its different. The camera could stand to be a little less shaky but its still early so I'm sure all of these issues will be fixed in the future. Hopefully
