Despite the clear and thorough enjoyment I've had with this game, all of it is merely product of a time where konami wasn't responsible for constant and consistent displays of stupidity and incompetence. As an experience, by itself and in a vaccuum far, far away from both Master Collection and HD Edition, MGS3 Subsistence is an excellent game that should've been on PC a decade ago.

The question however, turns to: "How many hoops are you willing to jump through?"
I'm not particularly wealthy, I don't think most people are, and for that reason I'd reckon that Master Collection is the easiest and cheapest way to experience one of the highest rated videogames of all time. This doesn't mean it's simple or easy, it still takes as much time and effort to set up as on RPCS3 or a hardware PS3/PS2, but merely at the cost of 50 USD instead of the absurdity of something like RPCS3, which would require you buy a 200 dollar CPU just to play it at 60fps in any resolution, or 200 dollars for a real hardware PS3 or otherwise.
No 20 year old game is worth 50 whole green dollars, let alone 250, but between these two choices, one of them is the clear winner.
All this to say, if you're intending on playing this videogame within a reasonable timeframe and within a reasonable budget, get this version. Mind you, I'm not saying you should get this at full price, I'm not saying you should get it on a sale, I'm saying; get this version.

The main issues with this port in question are mainly the resolution (hard-capped at 1280x720) and the audio, both of which can be easily resolved with MGSHDFix[github.com] and MGS3MC Better Audio[www.nexusmods.com]
Some may have to use DXVK[github.com], make sure to read this discussion to get the context as to why. Just remember that DXVK requires your GPU to have support for Vulkan and the DXVK version you got (I had to use an older version due to an older Nvidia GPU).
Nexusmods contains ample more mods for fixing or revising things that Konami hastily ported, like an AI upscale of all textures and higher quality UI elements.

It's absolutely unfortunate and nigh despicable how little thought and appreciation this port was provided with. With the price it asks for and the glaring issues it has and all of the extra tweaking it requires from third party applications and modifications that will make your game unstable JUST to make it playable and competitive in any way against other methods and modern videogames, considering all of that, I cannot willfully and consciously recommend this product by its own merit. But it might be your only chance at playing a game you should have played 20 years ago.
