As promised, here a recipe for a delicious Hackbraten! Ingredients: 500g mincemeat, 1 onion, 3 tablespoon breadcrumbs, 1 egg, 125ml milk, 1/2 teaspoon pepper, 3/4 teaspoon salt, 2-3 cloves garlic, 1 teaspoon thyme, 1 teaspoon lemon juice. How to prepare: Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic cloves. Then mix well all ingredients with your moistened hands. You can change the amount of spices if you want. Form a longish loaf out of the meat and put that loaf into a greased casserole dish or baking pan. Preheat oven to 225°C and bake the Hackbraten for about 45min to 1h, use the middle rack of your oven. There shall be no pink remains at the center of the Hackbraten. If you use a meat thermometer, 160°C in the center of the loaf are perfect. When finished, wait 5min before removing the loaf out of the pan / casserole. Some examples what to serve to your Hackbraten: a) potatos and vegetables like peas and carrots b) noodle or potato salad c) coleslaw and flatbread.
