art of rally is a fun rally-inspired game with plenty of cars to unlock among a variety of tracks. The game features year by year career mode, free roam, and also has online daily and weekly events. The artwork is amazing, it's in low-poly but looks absolutely beautiful. For people who enjoy rally-style racing games, this is a pretty good addition to your library. For people who don't enjoy racing, you can still have fun running around in free-roam mode, but you will need to complete some career events to unlock new cars.

This game is made by the same developers as Absolute Drift and I think the physics is pretty similar. It does take a while to get used to, with the stability assist probably more troublesome to have on than off. After playing around for a while, I saw benefit of it when I was being lazy. But when I actually tried to steer, the stability assist was really messing with me. So ultimately I turned it off.

This game only offers top-down camera view from several perspectives, so for people who enjoy games like Dirt Rally for the head-cam, this won't be available.

In free-roam mode, you will be able to explore all of the landscapes/roads available in the game otherwise, without any worries about making the best times. Instead, you will be just driving around collecting cassette tapes (to unlock new audio tracks) or looking a few pre-set views. In addition, gather the letters r-a-l-l-y to unlock the subsequent free-roam stage.

There are several difficulty levels to pick from, so you don't have to race against hardcore AI who can zip around every corner with perfect precision. There is an easy mode even below novice mode, for people who just want to win every race with no pressure at all. In addition, you can turn off damage to the vehicles, so tumbling off a cliff means that you will only get a 5 second penalty on your time as the car is being recovered.

You can also try out daily and weekly challenges set for the game.

Controls
I played with a controller and tried it on a keyboard as well. I prefer the controller.

Graphics
It's lo-poly artwork with a really bright color palette, a lot of the scenery looks like watercolors so it's enjoyable to just look around as you are playing through the game. There's probably a large group of people who wishlist the game for its general appearances alone.

Music & Sounds
The music is really fun to listen to, the vibes are really great for this game. The sound effects are mostly fine, some of the car engines sound a bit funny, but it could just be me.

Audience
This game is good for people who like the artwork or who enjoy rally-style games. If you like both, then even better.

Pricing
Base price of $24.99 is a little high, but then again it's a game you can get countless hours of fun from, so I suppose it's okay.

Improvement Potentials
1. I would love to have a few more camera options that are closer to the ground, a better forward looking chase-cam would be fine, even if I cannot have an in-car head-cam. Even the lowest POV angle is higher than I would like.
2. The pre-set sights in free-roam mode is only available one time. Once you collect it, you cannot go look at it again. The car displayed in the scene is what you are driving at the time, it would be nice to be able to go back and re-access it later.
3. Better fine-tuning control options would be nice.

Conclusion
I am not a good person to tell you whether or not art of rally is a good rally game, because I am terrible at such games. But I can tell you that it's fun and pretty to look at. As mentioned above, the physics took a while to get used to and I find it more realistic with the stability assist off, so use that at your own risk.

With all of the different ways to play the game, the different cars available, and its core as a time-attack race against-yourself kind of game, you can be playing this for many hours and still be having fun, so I think the price is reasonable.

Score: 8.5/10

@AviaRa, you are welcome. :-) Thanks for reading! I am terrible at these kinds of games, I do enjoy Dirt Rally though and from there have tried a few others. This one is just so pretty to look at. :-)

The screenshots of this game's store page give me a feeling of "calm, relaxing" game, which is something I wouldn't expect from a rally. Seems like you had a lot of fun, though! I'm just not into the racing games much, so I'll probably pass on this one. Still, thanks for a good read!

@cacrobia, the input is not bad, I just checked it to be sure. You can rebind the controls to whatever you wish.

@FruitNDoggie, yeah, I like the different options, such as the easier modes and low or no damage, makes for a less stressful ride. :)

@aquatorrent, thanks! This is definitely one of the prettiest rally games.

Thanks for the review! I'm not a fan of rally games either but it seems to be a nice game to play with.
