You know that Dr. Weird skit about corn? It's actually the perfect analogy for this game. Maize is a dry, overly absurd, and overall, short expierence. Although being honest here, I think the skit is funnier, but I digress
The game itself isn't really something to write home about. You can tell the writers and the developers put time and effort into this, but the end result is a borderline "Eh, yeah, okay."

A lot of the game's strong suits are mostly evident from the trailers:
  1. The game looks amazing really great
  2. The voice acting is solid
  3. Over the course of a 3-4 hour playthrough, there's only about 1 or 2 corn-related puns

While these things alone are well enough to give this a good 9/10, there is a lot of issues that can make it a lot less enjoyable:
  1. It is very, VERY short; if you were to skip a lot of the reading materials, you could easily beat this in under 2 and a half hours
  2. The humor is hit and miss, but with an unfortunate bias where the story bits miss the most of their jokes, more on this below
  3. It's $20, with the lowest sale price being $10. For this price you could get something more akin to Firewatch. That's also why at least 75% of the reviews are from steam keys rather than storefront: They all recieved this in a Humble Monthly bundle and decided to give it a shot
  4. Probably a major complaint, considering the game is dialogue based. There are no subtitles, none. This is a massive problem for those who are hearing impared or are struggling with English

Now, back to the humor itself; at least 90% of (in my opinion) the good jokes are in the journals and flavor text. The spoken dialogue, and a solid chunk of the journals are absolute trash, however.
An embarassingly large portion of the journals, as well as the dialogue coming from your russian bear companion (Who is around you for almost the entire game) is either the word "Stupid" or the word "Idiot" or the occasional thesaurus variant. I am not kidding when I say, you would be dead if you took a drink everytime the word is uttered.

At the end of it all, I find the game as "Not a waste of 3 hours"
I'd only recommend it if you want to kill an afternoon and are absolutely sick of ordering pizza.

(I would totally buy the second game for only the sake of the corn skit sequel)

I remember months ago, originally thinking the FJ7x remix was the best soundtrack of the bunch; then this version came out and overtook that spot in a matter of hours. Then Aria Awakened came out and took the spot back, but that's for another time

Personal opinions asside, this is by far one of the most complete soundtrack DLCs in the entire collection:
You get a total of 61 files in this:
All 30 songs in the game, including the 5 or so songs that don't usually have a variant.
They are encoded in both VBR .mp3 and .FLAC with all the correct tags and the cover art.
You also get two copies of the cover art as a .png file

My only (minor) complaint about the collection is that the files are tracked to be fit on 2 CDs, rather than a playlist of 30. Although if this bothers you, you probably already know how to fix it.
Overal, TOTALLY worth it for the pitifully low price of $4

(Of course you could save a whopping 5% if you just buy every soundtrack)

Update: July 11th
On the eve of Amplified leaving Early Access, they've updated a bunch of the soundtrack DLCs to be more polished. I've updated the below review to match today's update

If you're one of the strange ones buying the NecroDancer soundtracks ala carte; much like the DLC itself, the songs included in this bundle are also in Early Access. As such; they aren't tagged or encoded as well as the original soundtracks.

In this pack you get 12 16 files:
5-1 to 5-3 + Fortissimole without lyrics by A_Rival in VBR .mp3 and .FLAC, and is properly tagged with the cover art for your music player.
5-1 to 5-3 + Fortissimole with lyrics by FamilyJules in 320kbps .mp3 and .FLAC, neither have tags or the coverart; however, you can easily copy it over from FJ7x's bandcamp page[familyjules7x.bandcamp.com]

The songs themselves are finished and accounted for, so if you're willing to convert/tag the songs yourself, you're golden. If not, I suggest waiting it out until they finish it.

(I suggest just getting the entire bundle anyways and save about 5%.)

Update: July 10th, 2017
After a few months of waiting; the soundtrack DLC has been updated to include all the missing content; I can now safely say that I highly recommend this and all the soundtrack DLCs

The updated package now includes:

Virt's 4-song remix in VBR MP3 and FLAC, both including tags for your music player. Notorious D.I.G has no vocals
GF Records 6-song remix in 320kbps untagged MP3 and FLAC. Notorious D.I.G has 3 different varients by each GF Records artist, all vocals.

None of these have the cover art embedded; i would suggest picking them up from the artist's Bandcamp pages, or reusing the regular Necrodancer covers with an MS Paint modified AMPLIFIED on top of it.

I would also like to thank Jackie from the dev team for coming back after 3 months and letting me know about the release of the update

----
Original review with strikes to remove confusion
If you're one of the strange ones buying the NecroDancer soundtracks ala carte; be sure to double check the descriptiion; IT IS NOT DONE YET BASICALLY DONE

Oprindeligt skrevet af Description:
WARNING: THIS OST IS NOT YET COMPLETE! Virt's tracks have not yet been added. We will add them as soon as we can!

Note: I am making a complete assumption, but it's probably because Virt had a long list of other projects around the time Amplified was being made.

As of right now there are only 6 files included in this DLC, 5-1 to 5-3 and 3 variants of Notorious D.I.G done by each artist at Girlfriend Records, each with the lyrics.
Each song is encoded in 320kbps MP3 and are all Untagged.

While I love the soundtrack and all variants of it, this review is better placed as a warning for those expecting the full package

If you know this, then go ahead and buy it if you're willing to wait it out.

(I suggest just getting the entire bundle anyways and save about 5%.)

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a Rogue-like developed by a team of roughly 10 people who grew up in the mid 90s and were raised entirely by Doom and The Secret of Monkey Island? Of course you don't, that's pretty weird.
Fortunately it exists and it is probably one of the best "true" rogue-like games made in the past 10 years.

What is it?
Dungeons of Dredmor is a Roguelike Fantasy RPG with several pop culture references from the 90s up to the 2010s.
If you are unsure of what a Rogue-like is[en.wikipedia.org], it's a gameplay style based on the 1980 release "Rogue". In a nutshell, you are given one life to complete the entire game, any death results in a save wipe or a sentence back to the start of the game. As such the game itself is relatively shorter than other RPGs, maybe 2-3 hours with experienced players.

In the more traditional rogue-likes, like this game, you move in a square based grid and take turns with the enemies to either pick up one of the 20 or so types of cheeses, find new gear to equip, or die horribly to one of the many monsters in your way.
Controls to this game are rather simple, move in a grid based map with WASD and use the mouse to interact with objects next to the player. However, I very much recommend turning off mouse movement. It sounds nice at first, but as far as I know you cannot cancel any mouse movement queues. So if you are suddenly ambushed, you have to take a good 3 turns just to move to the spot you clicked. Which is very bad.

Long story short, this is a very difficult game for newcomers to rogue-likes or even intermediate players who understand most of the things.
If you really like the concept of this game and must play it first rather than others, thankfully you can lower the difficulty and disable permanent deaths. And it doesn't even make fun of you for it!
I highly recommend the tutorial even if you know what you're doing, it's humorous and gives you a good idea of how to play (character numbers good, hp good, damage bad).
Further help can be found in this guide that i totally didn't pick because it is only the top rated one: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=148533918
If you want a more casual rogue-like experience to ease into the realm of insanity, I’d recommend trying the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series of games from Spike Chunsoft for Nintendo DS/3DS
If you want a harder, more confusing, and actively update rogue-like; try Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode[www.bay12games.com] (good luck)

My Experience
I've "started" playing this game maybe 4 years ago when I received it in a Humble Bundle. I played it, died, got angry, died again, and wrote it off as a bad game. Since then I have learned that there can be fun found in losing as well as winning. So, About a few weeks ago I picked it back up and tried to beat it again.
As I am writing this (August 14th, 2016), I have yet to complete the game in its entirety, let alone the DLC which extends the game even further. I have met my inevitable demise about 20 times over the years i played this off steam and even now. I plan to make it to the end on my own accord on Normal with Permadeath on, even if it takes me another 4 years.

Price Point?
5 years ago this game released for an almost unheard-of price point of $5, it is still $5 because you can't really lower it anymore than this. They eventually added 3 DLCs. 2 for $3 and 1 for absolutely free! (under the caveat that you have to give it a name). Since then the made a complete edition bundle for $7, which is obviously the best choice in this scenario.
Sales of this game are somewhat common, roughly once every 2-3 months for 50%, with it having a deep discount of 75% at one point.

Game Updates?
On April 1st, 2012, the devs "announced"[www.gaslampgames.com] that they would be making a sequel to this game. In 3D with the inclusion of Microtransactions and Social Media postings.
As of August 2012, after the release of the third dlc, the devs have no longer added content to this game and moved onto other projects.
Thankfully the game has native steam workshop mod support, so you can add a set of items, skills, or re-sprites to add more to the game. Of course there won't be many mod developers for such a small game as this, but there are quite a few at least.

Is it worth buying?
Yes. If you like the humor from Monkey Island, the gameplay styles of any "true" rogue-like, or even want to try one for the first time. Definitely pick this title up, even if it's not on sale.
(You're spending maybe $3.50 extra, that's like half the price of a fast food meal for 2)

(Also, hilariously enough, there actually is a Doom roguelike)[en.wikipedia.org]

If I were to summarize this game in one sentence it'd be "Child's first Hack n' Slash lootfest for those who weren't around for Diablo 2". And that's perfectly okay. Namely because that's me.

Torchlight is an isometric action RPG where you bind active skills to the mouse and number keys and make your way down 30 floors to kill the big bad, only for you to turn into the big bad yourself in the sequel (Sound familiar?[en.wikipedia.org]). Along the way you will level up and find incrimental upgrades in the form of magically enchanted gear to buff a list of stats and attributes to make your time much easier.

After that, you're pretty much done, you can then enter an endless dungeon full of ever-increasing baddies onwards to level your character to level 100 and then retire, but you will usually be absolutely done into your early 60s and will want to move on.

If none of that sounds fun, Hack N' Slash games are not your thing. Sorry.
If it does sound fun, congrats; buy this game and get started immediately so you can catch up on all the Hack N' Slashes you missed over the years.
________________________
While many might think that the level to 60 and quit is a dumb thing. I honestly think that might be the entire point. At least for me, this is a game you blaze through during a nostalgia trip and then move on. Your accumulated knowledge from various other loot fests will be put to use here to absolutely destroy the balancing in the game compared to your downward trudge the first time because you thought you could handle Hard (More on that later). I very much look forward to my next playthrough in 2-3 years.

However, that doesn't mean the game is without a large share of flaws due to its age. I will go over the Pros and Cons
________________________
Pros
  • This game was $20 during its release back in 2009. It has since been given out in bundles, as well as a free gift to people at one point. It's currently $15 as of this review and usually gets 75% off during sale times.
  • The art style used here is timeless. Even after 7 years, it looks as good as it did day 1
  • VERY easy to run on a modern-day windows system (At least compared to Diablo 1/2)
  • It is an excelent gateway to other Lootfests
  • 4 basic character atrributes are simple to understand. Life, Melee damage, Ranged Damage, and Elemental Damage.
  • You have access to a pet that can sell your garbage for extra coin without you needing to leave
  • A lot of numbers do not have a soft cap to them. So if you exploit the start of the game, you can get enough gems to get something dumb like 16 +4% crit chance gems which totals to roughly an 80% crit chance after maxing the skill on the tree
  • Simple and robust modding system, drag mod files into mod directory and you're set.
  • You can somehow remember every single line in the game despite only playing it about 5 times through total
Cons
  • The Pet is 95% useless in any combat situation, the best thing they can do is maybe draw some mobs away from you before he dies again..
  • And again....
  • And again......
  • As this game is over 7 years old, you can believe you can have a difficult time trying to find mods, let alone developers who still support them.
  • Movement speed is one of the worst things. If you pick the melee or mage, you move like a snail. Picking the ranger will have you move like a turtle. Get movement speed enchants and Haste ASAP
  • Difficulty scaling is by far one of the worst I have ever seen in a game. More on that later
  • This game was released during an awkward point where you combined basic attacks as well as active skills; meaning you run out of mana constantly
  • Store weapons and armor are at least twice as good as loot you find in the dungeon; so you will be mostly buying new gear instead of finding a really nice equip.
  • No easy way to identify multiple items at once without binding the scrolls to a hotkey
  • An overwhealming majority of your early-game skills are outclassed by the ones around level 25. Resulting in quit a handful of wasted skill points.
  • No non-cheat/mod way to respec your character. Once you pick a skill and confirm, it's there forever.
  • Unique/legendary gear is largly just a rare item with a unique model, hardly an guarenteed stat rolls, and the ones that are guarenteed are largly useless in my experiance.
  • As with all Diablo-typed ARPGs, it is almost impossible to list a name for this genre.
________________________
Now then, on to my biggest complaint throught the review; the higher difficulties are 100% trash. Do not even bother picking them unless you want to hate yourself. I have did a little research on Floor 1 and concluded that the HP and damage scaling is like this: Easy = 50%. Normal = 100%. Hard is 200% and Very Hard is about 300%. Besides that, nothing else changes; no extra loot drops, no mob changes, just extremely high numbers for your level. As such, the only way you can get through most of the floors is to overlevel like crap before then, which is just padding to make the game longer.
Tacked onto this, the final boss is one of the worst designed bosses in history, in my opinion. At level 28, with a 79% crit chance after 15 +4% crit chance gems it took me 25 minutes of nonstop running and potion chugging to defeat him on Hard, As Seen Here. (Sorry about the waternark, issues with shadowplay) I will admit, I was 2 levels behind him, but this is with 0 going back to grind in a 5 hour speedrun.
________________________
HOWEVER. Despite all my gripes with my most recent playthrough, I will still wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone on the fence about playing a Hack N Slash Loot Fest ARPG Diablo Clones, and a fun little romp for veteran players to break the game the way they want it to, especially for only $15.
Just, you know, not on Hard or Very Hard
