A lot of people worked real hard to make this game, and it is fun.

The volume of complaints out there regarding their DLC policy is already overwhelming, so I will not be adding my two cents on that, but do know that it will cost a small fortune if you want to play all the extra factions.

I enjoyed the main campaign but do believe it fell short of the previous ones. As with the previous entries in the series, the immortal empires mode with its expansive world and myriad factions vying for control is where the fun lives.

Ultimately, you're getting more of the time tested total war franchise. You manage your economy, build your fortresses, raise armies and conquer the world with cunning and brutality. If you like that kind of grand strategy game, and you want cool monsters, knights, and sorcery in your battles, you'll enjoy this game.

Despite its loudly declared imperfections, I've had hundreds of hours of fun building my empires and marching armies into battle, and nobody can take that from me (at least not without a really good doomstack--My army is sick as hell).
