This is not the same power fantasy as Space Marine 1.
Glory kills/executes do not give back health.
Your health is now very limited, and refilling it is hard, rather than expected.
Executions give armor.
Successful parries are just a quick kill of a small enemy, or damage on a medium+

This is not really a Yes or No for recommending the game, just moreso meant to be informative regarding some things.

I think the combat feels a bit clunky with animations being very much a thing you are stuck in until done, so button-mashing can get you screwed like a Fighting game.

Basically an overall improvement from Rebellion.

Changes:
The mines got removed, which is frankly an improvement--no longer having to waste time or resources on those, either to make or clear.

Capital ships, planets, and starbases now have "item" systems. Flak Burst is an item cap ships can get, some other abilities are on these. Other Cap ship abilities got shuffled, or new ones added.

Orbital mining buildings take logistics slots, but planets now have surface mining.

There is more of a split between the "Loyalist" and "Rebel" factions, with them otherwise being renamed a bit, as the splits have become more solidified over time.

There are new exotic resources, which are required for some techs, items, and production of capital ships.

Still runs smooth as butter as it always did.

I would've said show your support for the developer and get the upgrade if I had reviewed this at the same time I reviewed the main game. But right now, if you're gonna buy? Get the base game if anything... And only if you're in a country where Sony hasn't decided you can get bent in the near future even after having handed over money to get and play this game.

"The game is awesome and fun. Most importantly, the servers are now stable.

Get to work, Helldiver. We have managed democracy to spread." - OG review from 17Feb2024

Still awesome and fun... Just... Just why are forcing PSN account linking? Just make crossplay require a PSN account be linked or something. Too many divers bought this game from countries that can't legally make a PSN due to Sony's own TOS. -- 03May2024

The war front against Sony's push for PSN being a forced-link has been pushed back to a stalemate. Good work to all Helldivers. Now, back to work--we have oil to spill. -- Night of 05May2024

Nice and fun. Feels a little clunky as it was brought over from mobile.

How many "days" your playthrough takes isn't relevant & has no impact on anything story related, so don't be concerned over how much you advance the clock by training. It will cause monsters to respawn & resources to refresh, so it's useful for things that have long refresh timers in that sense.

I hope Witchspring 4 also gets brought over to PC.

Very well made and well written, and fairly close to how I'd imagine a game of its sorts should be.

Though they did... Rather liberally change the Archduke, rather all over the place.

Gameplay itself is okay. There is a tutorial that helps guide you through the new mechanics somewhat decently.

Starting weapons are mediocre as always, though.

Default controls feel odd in some ways, in part because throwing bags and such got changed to Q.

Big issue, however:
For some reason, Starbreeze has decided they needed their own account system within the game that people have to register with. Nevermind most people will have accounts already from other sources.

From there, there are no private games. Matchmaking will always be done, even if you set it to friends or invite-only. It will still spend forever trying to matchmake rather than just take you to the mission. Please just let us play by ourselves sometimes, devs. Helps us practice stealth and learn maps better, whilst otherwise waiting for friends to show up.

I've always loved the R&C series. I played through from the original, through Size Matters, Up Your Arsenal, Going Commando, and Deadlocked--never got the consoles needed for Future Series, sadly, as the R&C series would have been the only thing I really played on them. Would've felt like a waste to buy a whole console just for that.

At any rate, love to see a R&C title finally make it to PC so I can play it again.

I played through without issues until I was a few hours in, then experienced the crashes most people are talking about. Turning off the NVidia toggle-thing within the game's video settings stopped that from happening any further, at least.

Small issue with getting the "Raritanium" upgrades with some weapons: Any upgrade nodes that get close to the edge, especially to the top of the 'window' or the 'right', become improbable to get utilizing the mouse controls only. Thankfully you can just use keyboard input to take over instead.

Other personal gripes:
You only see a "friendly big warbot" [Kit] in cinematics and cinematic-like moments, never something the player gets to control.

Clank never even hints at himself being able to do similar [go big warbot mode], and also seems to be unable to get a replacement arm during the timeline of the game's story.

Mobility in the game seems to have been designed such that the presence of Clank or Kit do not affect Ratchet or Rivet--which makes some sense, since Ratchet goes a couple planets without a robot friend. Good for control consistency perspective, but makes the presence of Clank & Kit a bit less impactful from player perspective.

The RYNO 8 seems to be a bit underpowered for the ultimate-weapon namesake of the series. Low ammo count room nuke that sometimes takes 2 or even three shots to fully clear the tougher mobs in the room, where it's max ammo is 7 post upgrades.

The reflector shield weapon's Steam achievement being one that required getting the weapon itself all the way up to level 5 to actually have the "Catch & Return" functionality was rather aggravating, since the weapon itself feels very poor & clunk to use prior, and is still a pain after that ability is active.

I have beat the game on normal-medium difficulty and challenge mode-max difficulty, with all achievements acquired at this time. Was fun. A nice little reminiscence of a franchise from my childhood. I hope to see other R&C titles hit the PC eventually as well, so I can enjoy them, too.

So, four Archbishops of a myriad-demon-worshipping cult persecute your species into utter extinction to avert a doom prophecy. You're the last one to be killed--but when you die, that prophecy those buffoons tried to avert was in turn enacted, as the One Who Waits now has his "best mode of vengeance"--the player-controlled 'Lamb', to go murder those who sealed him away.

So, go make your own cult. Make your followers love you. Marry them. Watch them die of old age.
Sacrifice them. "Ascend them"... Into the ceiling where they die as well, but it somehow warms the hearts of all the other followers.

It's a soft village-sim and dungeon-crawl. The dungeons start easy, get hard as you progress through the story. Have fun.

Are you ready to become one with Orteil's cookie?

Yes, this game is available to play for free on the browser. Steam release is to support the creator more easily for most folks. That, and come on--it's on Steam, so you can just let people know how many hours you're idling away with cookies open in the background.

Let's see how many hours played it racks up over time, shall we?

Welp, from 300 to 1800 on my own computer... Can only imagine how high it is for Steam as a whole.

Gotta get those cookies to make more cookies to afford more cookies.
