TL;DR: Sony's handling was poor, but the game itself is enjoyable. It's a PvE co-op FPS with a Starship Troopers vibe and a strong community.

Long version
The game has evolved significantly since its launch. The original CEO, passionate about realizing the game's vision, stepped down to focus on creative aspects and brought in a new CEO from Paradox.

While still buggy, the game is mostly playable. One persistent issue is the Spear weapon, which has been repeatedly fixed and broken, causing game crashes. Despite this, it's my favorite support weapon and has provided both fun and frustration.

Playing with friends is highly enjoyable, and solo play can be fun in the right situations. The lore and music are excellent, and the weapons are continually being refined. Although there's a lot of overlap among the many weapons, the developers are working on balancing them for a PvE environment after hiring a PvP balance specialist who is still adapting to their role.

If you enjoy PvE FPS co-op games, this one is worth picking up. There's no specific story line, but the game is designed for drop-in play. The community drives the narrative by choosing which missions to complete, such as saving children instead of going after anti-tank mines. Developers then add prompts based on these community choices.

Sony's mishandling, particularly the PSN requirement issues, led to a strong backlash. A good community manager was fired for speaking up, and although the company tried to manage the fallout, Sony made matters worse by banning a ton of countries from playing the game after they had already purchased it and played over the return hours mark. However, the Steam community rallied, review-bombing the game until Sony backed off, showcasing a very solid community.

Overall a solid game if you wanna play a pickup mission of about 15~40 minutes. Throwing down lots of explosives from orbit, along with solid teamwork can make the game extremely fun.

WARNING: this game has extreme friendly fire, and that can be a frustration for many players and even close friends. Take every death as if it's supposed to happen.
