Nightingale is a striking game with some obvious - yet fixable - problems.

I've been following the game for a couple of years now, but the closer it got to launch, the more skeptical I was. It promises a lot, and I went in with my guard up fully expecting it to fall flat and feel sterile and dull.

The first few hours were enjoyable, but nothing revolutionary. Nothing was lighting a fire beneath me. At some point, when you start hopping through portals and discovering new realms, everything clicks. This game puts a compelling spin on a tiring formula - and the deeper I got, the more engrossed I was.

The game has some real problems. Follower and enemy AI is rudimentary. It's missing some key quality-of-life features. The crafting system has so much to it, but it's a slog to use because it's impossible to find which chest you left your materials in. The menus need work, and some systems aren't well explained.

These are all things that I hope will be addressed by the dev soon. Currently, they're stopping a good game from being great. The issues are hard to ignore, but they don't outweigh the strengths of the game in my opinion.

If you're on the fence, it's probably wise to wait for some fixes and improvements to smooth out the experience. If you're excited and able to look past these things - I'd say dive right in. It's a really enjoyable game despite its flaws.

Also - the realm card system is some excellent game design. Oh, and Puck is excellent. Be nice to Puck.

There's also a Shrek easter egg if that sways you one way or another.

[EDIT: Removed a line about trees being bouncy. I included that 'cos I thought people would find it funny. Boy, was that a miscalculation. It landed very badly. (Kind of like the trees in the game).]

Hello. I'm sorry that of course I'm writing to you, of course I sent you a friend request to write to you. But I'm interested in one thing. I have shown that you got the nightingale game for free. Can you please explain how? If it's not too hard for you.

Idk if you ever watched or talked to timber/logger workers, but trees sometimes bounce after they get cut down. Its just simple physics. Sorry you were not able to comprehend such an easy physical occurrence to where you complain about it in a game. "Trees shouldn't bounce" :DDDD yeah and fish shouldn't swim lol. Garbage review. Just because its an essay of a review doesn't mean its right.

How the hell does every survival crafting game, to this day, STILL make you dig through your twenty chests to find the shit you need. Just make benches pull from any chest within a certain radius automatically, enshrouded has this same issue, and for a genre so unbelievably copied and pasted, no one feels like changing any of the obnoxious things about the genre.

Actually ->good<- game fucked up by ALWAYS ONLINE for SINGLE PLAYER shittery. I say Fuck this and fuck this dev until they drop the acting. Noone needs it, noone wants it. Why implement shittery and overpower own servers if you just can let people connect via co-op. Every single one survival dev understands this, but these shits do not? What the hell?

Always the "received for free" casuals that leave long winded reviews complaining about basic crap that no real gamer cares about. Bro literally complained about tree realism in a fantasy game about fae realms. He then complained that his brain capacity to sort his chests properly is so small that he called it "impossible" to find where his materials are. LMFAO bro you are a brainlet like crazy to need your hand held so hardcore with your own inventory management. Wild that people this disconnected from reality and game development feel the right to share opinions like this as if it provides any real criticism aside from your own mega casual preferences

not like nightingale is the apex of realism
