Also I feel that further sympathy is evokes for Nicole because of her bookish ways. She said that she ‘wept’ to the final pages of ‘A farewell to Arms’, this shows us that she was emotional when she was younger along with the love she showed Francis ‘she allowed me an innocent kiss’ but by the end of the novel her emotions seem limited and she looks as Francis with affection but ‘affection is not love’.
Nicole is very strong and stoical. After her violation she deals with her problems in quite a mature ways and even from the start was quite reserved. She puts up with her problems without complaining. After here violation her life changed yet she carries on and through this I feel that she is a hero in her own right as she survived an awful experience yet doesn’t allow herself to be defined by this, showing that how you deal with their awful experience and rise from this builds you as a person. Her stoical demeanour is truly shown ‘her hair is cut short’ and when
