Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took the Turn-Based genre into the next level with its remarkable real-time mechanics, offering the freedom to explore both its rich world and enhancing each character builds.

Writing & Plot
The narrative is set in an aesthetic and artistic dark fantasy world inspired by the Belle Époque period of France, creating a unique dreamlike world. Every year, a mysterious entity known as the Paintress awakens to paint a number on a monolith, and everyone of that age fades away. Each year, this number decreases, leading to a desperate mission commissioned to end the cycle before the next number is written. Expedition 33 embarks on this perilous journey like those before them to save future generations of Lumiere, an isolated city on an island in the ocean. Our heroes, Gustave, Maelle, Lune, and Sciel, find themselves in crisis after an unexpected encounter that led to the annihilation of most of their members upon reaching the shore of the continent where the Paintress resides. However, new friendly creatures join them on their adventure to destroy the Paintress.

Initially, the story appears to be about survival, but as you delve deeper, it reveals itself to be something entirely different. It emerges as a portrayal of grief, and once that realization hits, everything changes. Even the ending you choose doesn’t deliver a simple closure; instead, it mirrors the various ways we cope with loss. It’s beautiful and poetic in its own right. The characters you once viewed as antagonists reveal themselves to be humans trying to mend broken bonds. No ending is inherently right or wrong, so feel free to choose the one that resonates with you the most.

Character Building
The character building and writing work hand in hand to reinforce the game’s emotional core. Each character distinctly responds to grief, conveyed not through dialogue but through subtle visual details and restrained performances. Rather than relying on heavy exposition, the game lets small gestures define who these people are.

What truly adds depth to the narrative is how the game handles its character bonds. Their relationships aren’t just supportive, but they are complex and realistic. They are deepened by the shared burden of not only saving Lumière but also coping with loss and despair.
Aesthetics & visuals
The art direction and world design are unrivaled, bringing to life a vivid reality out of a canvas. As you embark on your adventure through these beautifully crafted realms, you can't help but be enchanted by the breathtaking landscapes and sense their sheer beauty. Not only do these stunning views catch your attention, but also the meticulously composed music that elevates your gaming moments into a one-of-a-kind experience that lingers in your memory long after you've explored every corner. It's truly an unforgettable exploration of beauty and creativity.

One area that truly captivates the attention is Sacred River, a mystical and serene realm where creatures await their rebirth. In this enchanting landscape, a dazzling aurora waves across the night sky. Its vibrant hues of green and blue paint a magical portrait along the stars. Enormous glowing bells suspended midair cast a gentle, soft blue light that illuminates the land in an otherworldly glow. The environment is abundant with life, yet it leaves you with a sense of lost memories of each reborn creature. There are trees and crystal-clear water that flow through the land, reflecting the beauty of the moon high above, surrounded by the glow of the bells.

Gameplay Mechanics
The gameplay combines the traditional turn-based RPG combat system with unique real-time mechanics, making each encounter dynamic. In battle, players can utilize free aim, parrying, and dodging, which are crucial skills to master. Specifically, the parry and gradient counter can inflict significant damage if executed with perfect timing. Additionally, players can earn extra XP if they avoid taking any hits.

The game also offers the freedom to strategize your battles and builds. Each character possesses unique abilities, skill trees, and synergies. Pictos are tools that increase the character's stats and grant various effects, such as boosting attacks and defenses, as well as conditional effects, for instance, dealing more damage to the enemy at the cost of doubling the damage the character receives. Each character can equip up to three pictos, making the selection process a strategic decision. Luminas are passive abilities that can be activated once you fully master a picto without equipping it to a character. This feature allows you to customize your build to fit your playstyle by improving your stats, skills, and gear.

Outside of combat, the game features open-world exploration. Players can adventure through the world by going on foot or travel with their giant companion by swimming and flying to discover hidden paths, battle bosses, engage in side quests, mini-games, collect materials for upgrades, hunt for collectibles, and interact with party members to deepen the connection and get new skills as a reward.

Conclusion & Final Thoughts
I could analyze every character, area, and event, and connect them to various layers and themes; yet, I would still feel that I hadn't explored enough. It's a mesmerizing tale, perfectly executed, and I am in awe of the countless details the developers, writers, and composers worked so hard to create. The soundtrack is rich in lyrics, and it is one of the elements that initially drew me in because they convey the characters' emotions and hardship. Overall, it features a strong and profound narrative while enjoying its world.

Mahjong Realms is a casual, relaxing game ideal for lying down. It’s fun, but the shuffling mechanic can be frustrating. You can shuffle up to three times, yet when the board shuffles, the tile placement feels off. Winning seems impossible unless you keep retrying and hoping for a miracle. Unfortunately, it became irritating near the end. I will label this game as negative, hoping the developers will fix it. Otherwise, it’s nice.

Her peach blossom-like beauty

She drowns in unrequited love,

Turning around, she gazes
at the two stars separated eternally.
The brilliant moonlight
Dying her ruby tears blue entirely.

Introduction
Sword and Fairy: Together Forever is the seventh installment in the popular action RPG Chinese franchise, and one which seeks to reach a global audience. Happily, for those who have been looking to experience a xianxia-themed game, Sword and Fairy is an excellent entry in the franchise, especially for those with a fascination for Chinese mythology.

Writing & Plot
The game unfolds a tale of an epic conflict among three realms: Deities, Demons, and Humans. It begins with Xiu Wu, who failed his mission to assassinate the Demoness Kuiyu in the demon realm. As a consequence of his failure, he was banished to the human realm in the form of a spirit fruit. Later, he is discovered by Yue Qingshu, a disciple of the Mingshu Sect. Simultaneously, she is investigating the unusual behavior of vicious beasts that are losing control. Together, they embark on an adventure to complete their investigation, and along the way, join two new companions: Bai Moqing and Sang Yo.

Although this game is standalone, it contains references to the previous titles in the series. The worldbuilding is unmatched, with a remarkable level of detail evident in the smallest items and collectables, such as weapons, enemies, and spirits. Each of these has its own tale to tell. Additionally, a lovely touch is the incorporation of poems written for certain characters, which I believe is rare, and I find it gives depth to the characters.

The story captures the essence of traditional Chinese mythology while incorporating elements of high fantasy. It includes key components of a well-crafted plot, such as an engaging mystery at the beginning and diving deep into a more complex situation. It explores various perspectives alongside the development of friendship, romance, and individual character arcs. The slow-burning narrative allows relationships and conflicts to grow naturally, making later moments feel earned rather than rushed.

Character Building & Design
The character development heavily draws on Chinese fantasy tropes, and it is fascinating. The protagonists tend to be morally good, earnest, and honest. all aspects of their backgrounds were thought out, leaving no plot holes. Moreover, their relationships deepen even though they come from very different backgrounds. Additionally, each character is playable and can sometimes be explored separately, allowing their individual motivations and personalities to be in the spotlight as they adventure through the world.

The emotional connection between characters is the highlight theme. The romantic aspect of the plot and bond between the four heroes is nothing unheard of. However, it added a purpose and heartfelt moments which gave more life and light to the worldbuilding.

Each protagonist in the story has a distinct design that reflects their personality. For example, Kuiyu, the heaven demoness, appears powerful and royal while also being an evildoer. However, as the story unfolds, we learn more about her character. Sang Yo and Bai Moqing are my two favorite characters among these elements. They are well-developed as they face challenges. Bai feels guilty for her brothers' crimes, which is why she escaped years ago. On the other hand, Yo is trying to find out the reason behind his best friend’s death, and this connects to Bai’s brothers. He also has the duty of being the spring protector, which means he can never leave the village after he solves the mystery. This creates conflict for both characters. Bai feels guilty and pushes Yo away while standing against her brothers, and Yo wants freedom and is in love with Bai.

Aesthetics & visuals
The world design is both ethereal and breathtakingly beautiful. The visuals are nothing short of spectacular and vividly capture the themes of its rich worldbuilding.

Xianxia Sect is the most memorable one for its breathtaking views. It is surrounded by cascading waterfalls and towering mountains, with cherry blossom trees planted throughout the site. Soft leaves fall gently in every direction. Additionally, the music is soothing and elegant. It perfectly captures its tranquil air, and evokes a sense of peace and serenity.

Gameplay Mechanics
The RPG combat system is enjoyable despite its weak mechanics. A leveling system is featured for both characters and pets. It also has magic skills and various combat moves you acquire as you progress. Not to mention, you can switch between the four heroes in the middle of the battle. However, there were instances where I felt the combat was weak. For example, my attacks missed despite locking into the enemy. Furthermore, the enemies will only target the character you’re controlling. During battles, the characters move slowly, which can lead to losing HP.

Don’t underestimate the power of cooking. You can collect recipes and ingredients to cook Chinese dishes at stoves or camps. These dishes provide powerful and time-limited buffs for stats like attack or defense. Similarly, weapons can be enhanced and forged at blacksmiths up to three levels using collected materials.

There are numerous side quests, mini-games, and collectables to break up the intense action. You can have fun while collecting and playing Journey of Heaven and Earth, which is a rock-paper-scissors-style card game. There is also a leaf fairy jump, stealth sequences, and bamboo pole dancing games. The side quests are sure a lot, but very engaging and fun to do, and the reward system is great as well.

Localization
The localization was lacking and loaded with typos and grammatical errors. I wish it had been better because some poems and dialogue lost their impact due to incorrect translations. Nevertheless, it was still understandable if you could overlook these issues.

Conclusion & Final Thoughts
This game excels in every aspect, except for the combat system, as I mentioned earlier. If you appreciate compelling writing, rich worldbuilding, and exploration, you're in for an extraordinary time. I lost track of time as I explored and relaxed in Xianxia sect. The music is ethereal and incredible, creating an immersive atmosphere. I spent hours reading the sagas I collected, which are both enthralling and engaging.

I found myself rooting for the protagonists to be together, especially Sang Yo and Bai Moqing. They are adorable together, and I liked Sang Yo's monologues that expressed his jealousy and love for Bai. I respect how the themes of love, friendship, freedom, and overcoming challenges are intertwined into the narrative. These elements not only bring depth to the characters but also enhance the entire story.

I believe in the Chinese gaming industry and see a huge potential in it because Sword and Fairy series isn’t just a classic but also conveys a heartfelt message about the beauty of a culture and its mythology. In conclusion, I highly recommend this if you want to embark on a long journey across the three realms to save the world from collapsing, while enjoying the adventure.

From the moment I had this game featured on my discovery queue, I instantly purchased it because I knew that it would be a precious one that I wanted to keep only to myself, and I wouldn’t want to share it with anyone. However, I felt that it would be selfish of me not to recommend it as the developers poured their love and hard work into creating a true crimson gem. Playing it, it awakened my poetic side.

The Story is hauntingly beautiful. A means to escape, yet entangled in a shrouded past. Veloria, a kindled heart amidst the ashes of a burned place, finds a candlelight that illuminates the path to a dark secret, one buried in the seemingly endless abyss. Fragments of memories once held dear are dispersed throughout a shapeless world, with a hint of a promise that bleeds to be honored.
Although it might seem simple, for me, it was an experience that transported me to a grim and eerie world. What astounded me the most was the psychological aspect of the story. I truly felt the emotions of the characters and developed a deep sympathy for their suffering. The last cliffhanger suggests that a sequel is on the way, and I sincerely hope there will be one!

Character Design & Voice Acting The character designs in the game are really gorgeous. It's uncommon to see such beautiful art in this type of games, and I think the creators did a great job. The voice acting is also good. Each character sounds just like they should, which makes the story more engaging. I was surprised to hear voice acting in this game, since it's rare, but it makes it better.

Atmosphere The game has a dark, gothic atmosphere filled with a sense of dread as Veloria finds herself trapped in a time loop in some place, desperately trying to reset time over and over. Simultaneously, exploring a cursed orphanage looking for an exit surrounded by suffocating darkness.

Gameplay The gameplay is great, and the time/clock mechanic is truly unique. I haven't encountered a mechanic like this in any other pixel art game, nor have I heard of one before, so it really stood out to me. I spent two days trying to obtain an item and figuring out how to manipulate time. It was arduous, and I almost gave up. I accidentally got myself stuck in a time loop five times in a row just trying to set the time accurately lol.

Conclusion and Final Thoughts This game feels like a love letter to me. I fell in love with it more than I expected, and I have to admit I wanted to gatekeep it. It inspired me to compose a poem based on its themes and portrayal. If you approach it from a poet's perspective, you'll discover many layers that can spark inspiration. I personally found Veloria to be both poetic and enjoyable to play. It's a must-play, especially knowing that the creators behind the game work hard to improve it through localization and gameplay enhancements. This adds even more respect for it. I hope for a sequel or new dlc content to be made, and I sincerely thank the developers for their hard work and dedication. I'm looking forward to more games from them in the future!

Mark my words: Lost Soul Aside will receive the appreciation it deserves.

Honestly, the gaming community today can be quite harsh and often fails to recognize the hard work of developers, especially in the case of Lost Soul Aside. I believe many players had extremely high expectations, which led to negative feedback. Additionally, it seems that numerous people judged the game after playing it for less than two hours (thanks to Steam for that (¬_¬) or by simply watching random clips online. This trend is nothing new; we've seen it before with games like *cough* Stellar Blade and *cough* Blades of Time. I’m not quite sure what people were expecting, but after completing the game, I found myself wanting more and had an incredible experience. I’ll share my thoughts in more detail in my review.

Story
Kaser and Lousia are orphans living in the slum community of Primarius. They are members of a resistance group against the empire known as GLIMMER. During a festival, while carrying out a plan to create a disruption, they were suddenly attacked by monsters called Voidrax, who are dimensional invaders. Tragically, during this chaos, Lousia's soul was taken by the Voidrax. At that moment, Kaser was desperately trying to reach his sister after they had separated during the initial attack. As he searched for her, he heard a mysterious entity speaking to him. He soon discovers that creature, and has merged with Arena, the Voidrax Dragon, who had been imprisoned in a secret lab for millennia after the great battle of Mount Salvation. With this newfound power, Kaser embarks on an extraordinary and adventurous journey to save his sister and protect humanity.

While I agree that the story is its weakest point and could have improved with more time and experience, it's important to consider that it was initially created by one person, with a team joining later on. I honestly can't imagine it being any different. The plot and worldbuilding are basic and cliché, which doesn't bother me; sometimes these types of narratives can work even if they are flawed! Thus, many players criticized it due to unrealistic expectations or because it wasn't their type of genre. I believe the story fits the genre well, but it could have definitely benefited from additional time and skilled writers to enhance it.

Character Design & Voice Acting

The character designs remind me of Final Fantasy, even though I haven't played that series. They evoke a similar art style that I really appreciate. I particularly like Kaser’s design and costumes, and I find Aramon to be both majestic and criminally handsome. I can’t help but be charmed by his devilish smile, and I don’t regret it at all. Additionally, the designs of other characters, such as Victor and Zana, are quite captivating as well. However, I wish some characters had more emphasis and clarity on their backstories. I’m also eager to learn about the entire past of Arena and Aramaon, especially how Arena met Seleria, which led to the current events.

Concerning the voice acting, I've read many negative reviews about the English voice actors. It made me wonder why no one considered switching to Japanese or Chinese. I played through the entire session using the Chinese VA, and it was excellent; I'm sure the Japanese version is stunning too. Honestly, nothing beats the original experience in the creators' tongue, and I highly recommend switching to either the Chinese or Japanese voice acting.

Atmosphere

It is immersive and pleasing to the eye, even though it has a linear storyline. One of the most impressive parts is all twelve detailed level locations. Each area is unique and creative. For example, in the Chronocore Dimension, I found myself in a cyberpunk world with bright neon lights and tall structures. In contrast, the Skycrest Badlands and Buckhorn Palace took me to the remnants of an ancient civilization setting with old castles and villages. Overall, the beauty of these environments amazed me, and I appreciated the attention to detail in each area. I would love to write more in detail, but for the sake of my review, I won't list all of them.

Gameplay

Gameplay is absolutely entertaining with a variety of mechanics that keep things engaging. I was particularly blown away by the combat system. The level design is both intricate and visually captivating, featuring diverse areas and environments that are rich in detail. Additionally, it includes mini-games, challenges, and collectibles. There are unique items and upgrades in Liana's workshop, allowing you not only to buy but also to craft items and cosmetics.

The combat system is the highlight of the game, and I must say I was fired up. I felt like an anime character with all the awesome combos. They are brilliantly designed, and I really enjoyed upgrading each weapon to try different combos. The gameplay features fast dodging, and if you block or evade an enemy’s attack perfectly, you can execute impressive counterattack actions.

The weapons in this game are unique and versatile. You can seamlessly switch between four different weapon types: swords, greatswords, poleblades, and scythes in mid-combo. This feature allowed me to repeat some boss fights after being defeated. Initially, I focused on using just one weapon, but later in the game, I adapted my strategy to combine all four weapons during battles, utilizing the specific advantages of each. I have to admit, after making this change, I got completely immersed and hyper-focused. Each weapon has a set of light and heavy attacks, and a skill tree associated with each one. Here’s where it gets interesting: as you progress in the skill tree, you can unlock up to one or two slots for trinkets and arena powers. You can also gain access to new combos and abilities, as well as enhance your health, attack, and critical hit chances. You earn skill points by opening chests, playing mini-games, defeating enemies, and breaking certain blue crystals found in specific areas.

Due to steam's limited words, I will continue the other parts in the comment section.

Conclusion and Final Thoughts
First, I want to clarify that the issue wasn't with the game itself, but rather with expectations. However, it will likely satisfy dmc players and hack &slash fans in general. That being said, LSA isn’t as bad as some people have made it out to be! In fact, it’s one of the best new games I have played so far. Although it was short, I made sure to enjoy every detail of it. I can see myself replaying it if the developers continue to update and enhance it. The boss battles were intense and enjoyable. I upgraded almost all the weapons and used them simultaneously. I mostly used the poleblades, which is incredibly powerful, and the scythe was impressive as well. The final boss, Aramon, can create black holes (as expected of that hottie). Oh my, I absolutely loved it! I was impressed by the library maze; it was both creative and clever. The cutscenes, especially those after boss fights, were amazing as well. The game was fast-paced, yet I took my time and completed my first playthrough in about 50 hours. As for the story, I found it to be good, and I enjoyed it. I specifically liked the interactions between Kaser and Arena; Arena had the best lines, and honestly, his character is well-written. Overall, it felt fulfilling, and the graphics and creativity in level design were beyond marvelous. I truly had a fantastic time and, with all things considered, I rate it a solid 9 out of 10, and I can see this game being discovered and appreciated even more after two or three years.

Seeing more Chinese games released globally genuinely warms my heart because I deeply appreciate the culture and enjoy learning about it. As a passionate C-drama fan, this makes me feel even more connected to one of my favorite genres. I sincerely hope we soon get a xianxia-themed game. Whenever I play a Chinese-made game, I immediately switch the dub to the original because I really love the language <3

———— update ————-

The customization is excellent, and the gameplay feels incredibly smooth. I didn’t dive into much combat yet, but I spent time exploring, and wow, the visuals and world design are marvelous.
I’ll share more updates as I continue playing.

—————- update —————-

Customization is great and all. However, it features the typical microtransactions bu*llsh*it, and I must admit I fell for it. I'm not complaining, since I like the game and expected this. I lost track of time playing it. Gameplay is ok though I wish there was controller support

Also, it has a built-in TikTok clone system! I lost time trying a few templates of dances! I shared one on youtube!

Alone in the Dark is a remake of one of the horror classics from the early '90s. The player explores the depths of psychological horror in a Gothic South American setting during the 1930s.

Story

The story begins when Emily Hartwood hires private investigator Edward Carnby to find her missing uncle, Jeremy Hartwood, at Derceto Manor. Derceto Manor is an asylum for the mentally ill. While there, they discover bizarre and paranormal portals leading to extraordinary worlds, all while being pursued by monstrous creatures. As the mystery unfolds, a conspiracy involving cult worship is revealed. Players can choose to play as either Emily or Edward, each offering a unique approach to exploring the mysteries of Derceto Manor.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere of the game is thick with darkness. Players will step into the intricate, shadowy labyrinth of a mentally fatigued person's mind, unraveling the complexities of their psyche as they guide the protagonist, Edward, through a harrowing journey. The game skillfully blurs the boundaries between reality and imagination, creating an immersive experience where the two intertwine seamlessly.

Among the stunning and atmospheric environments, the foggy town stands out, enveloped in a dense mist that clings to the streets and buildings. This setting evokes a strong sense of isolation, reminiscent of the haunting landscapes of Silent Hill. Its abandoned alleyways and flickering street lamps draw players deeper into its eerie charm. Additionally, the expansive library, with towering shelves that stretch far into the shadowy depths, imparts an overwhelming sense of magnificence.

Gameplay

The gameplay was the most problematic for me, as it was quite laggy. Running and walking felt either too fast or too slow, and during important events where I needed to run as fast as possible, the lag made my character walk instead. This issue felt like a bug, and I had to replay certain parts to get past those events. Also, when I tried to climb up or down, my character often got stuck, forcing me to reload the game. The number of bugs I encountered made me consider abandoning the game mid-session. However, I had no issues with the weapons while shooting. As for the photo mode, it was fabulous, and the areas were so aesthetically pleasing that I ended up taking over fifty screenshots.

Conclusion and Final Thoughts

I wasn’t as thrilled with it as I expected to be. While the plot is somewhat interesting and the gameplay is decent despite its flaws, it didn’t motivate me to explore the lore deeply, which I usually enjoy doing. If Steam had a neutral review label, I would gladly categorize it as such because I believe it still has value for audiences that may appreciate it more than I did.
