**The First Descendants: A Surprisingly Solid Free-to-Play Experience**

The First Descendants is a surprisingly solid game, especially given that it's free. However, don't let the word "free" mislead you. Let's start with the basics: the gunplay is quite impressive, rivaling other top-tier games in its genre, such as Warframe and Destiny. If you're a Warframe player, transitioning to The First Descendants will feel quite natural due to its similar core gameplay mechanics like weapon and character upgrades.

Being a free game, it does need to generate revenue somehow, so it includes microtransactions. While I personally don't mind microtransactions since they are optional, I do find them to be quite expensive in this game. If you want the ultimate version of a character, it can cost anywhere from $70 to $100, unless you prefer to grind. From my observations, it would take about 30 in-game hours to farm the materials needed for an ultimate character. This seems a bit steep, and I hope the developers will reconsider these prices. Nevertheless, everything appears to be earnable in-game, and you are not forced to spend any money.

I would recommend this game for a couple of reasons: firstly, it's free; secondly, the gameplay is enjoyable, though it can get repetitive, especially when farming for specific items. Overall, the game is a lot of fun, particularly if you have friends to play with. If not, it's still easy to find others to play with online. While there have been some server issues and problems, it's understandable since the game was only released a few days ago. The developers have compensated players for these issues by giving out free in-game items, boosters, and bonus XP, which is a nice touch and something games like Destiny rarely do.

All content is currently available to play without any paywalls, unlike Destiny where you need to purchase add-ons to access newer dungeons and other content. Hopefully, The First Descendants will continue to release new content for free and focus on adding new cosmetics instead.

Give the game a try—it's free, so there's nothing to lose. If you end up not liking it, no harm done. But if you do enjoy it, there are countless hours of fun to be had.
