Game and it's exploration is hands down amazing. I use controller with a mix of mouse/kb when going throw menus. but having lots of fun and keep discovering new things every time I play.

The systems are complex but that's a bonus.

I run a 3070 laptop and have it maxed out and its as smooth as butter.

Will update later with more info.

Amazing game, didn't expect to see a 2 year old game hit 100k concurrent players in less than 24 hours, but here we are. Great game, even better on PC.

My advice, wait. I will continue playing the game and I finally got the the 12 hour, "Oh ♥♥♥♥" moment. I finally decided to focus on the main story, and you should too, at least up until that moment, it will change the way you play the game. This story is no different to me than what I have been doing in the last 10 versions of Skyrim, so far. Collect the dragon soul and find the word of power.

The planet exploration is my least favorite part of the game. I pick a spot, land, pull up my scanner, mark off some points of interest and run around with my scanner out the entire time, unless dragged into combat. Some people will say, why not just fast travel, well that's good an all, but only once you trekked to the location first, and then there is usually no reason to return. If you end up carrying too much, you have to make the slow walk back to your ship, because you are unable to call your ship to you and there are no land vehicles. Even ME1 had the Mako and it had instanced planets as well. For this reason I recommend you take Jet Pack skill as one of your firsts, it only shortens the trips by a minute or more, but worth it for the low grav long jumps. Most locations will take you at least 5 or more minutes to trek to them as they are all far off. While trekking in one direction to a cave or other point of interest, you will be scanning all the plants, animals, and minerals. On your route you will need to scan the 3-4 types of creatures, 1-2 types of plants, and 5-6 types of mineral along the way. Each thing needs to be scanned about 8 times before finishing that part of the survey. If you wish to finish the planetary scan, you will need to go to orbit and pick different biomes, don't forget coastal, as you will need to run along the beach for about an hour trying to scan the 1-2 types of fish in the sea. Now do this 1000 times. With all the planets, moons, and asteroids out there, there are only 4 Cities to explore, this seems very unrealistic. I would at least expect a few smaller towns here and there instead of just generic cut and paste shelters you will randomly find. The cities themselves are big enough and there are plenty of people to talk to and missions to take.

Space combat seems like the most fun system in the game, but only after you invest points into your ship systems and ships. I feel like they will very much focus on space combat and updates in the future with DLC, it has a lot of potential. I am currently experimenting with the space combat and do not want to review it in more depth until I feel like I got a good hang of the systems. So far, I am having a blast with taking out their engines and boarding their ships. Do not sleep on the space skill tree if you are having issues in space. Also there are some faction quests that will reward you with a ship, so start those side factions missions too.

Crafting, not much to say about it, it's what you would expect from any BGS game. However, you need to invest points into the crafting skills in order to unlock most of what you can craft in game.

I could complain about the UI or the FPS or how the game looks, but I already know what to expect from a BGS game. This is where the modding comes in! I have modded their games all the way back to Daggerfall and it's the best way to play a BGS game. I modded my game from the beginning with DLSS and several QOL mods, but nothing that would change the underlying systems of the game. There are some weak areas when it comes to the in game UI, and I would implore BGS to maybe tweak some of the UI, but if not, we always have mods.

There are a lot of loading screens in the game, but once you learn the systems you realize you can fast travel back to any planet you where at just by accessing the mission log and hitting fast travel. This is QOL and is great for main missions, once you finish them, you don't even need to go back to your ship if you are not over-encumbered, you can just fast travel to the next landing zone. Props to BGS for finally adding ladders to the game that have a climb animation.

Here's the deal. Am I having fun? Kind of. I have a few gripes, but these are mine, to each their own. The main story to me so far does not feel original, the charachters do not feel as memorable, many of the voice likes sound like they just found a regular Joe off the street reading lines instead of an actor. The amount of time you spend running around feels like filler. The side missions have been okay so far, but just the standard go here, talk to x, collect y. I have heard that there are some really good missions out there and hope to find some soon. I like there is an option to hide your suit when you are in settlements, but what I would love to do is also hide my suit when I am on my ship (everyone else takes theirs off), and hide my suit also when on a planet that is environmentally safe. Our companions hide theirs, I would love to hide mine too. The story is not grasping me the same way BGS previous games have and I'm just not having the same fun I have every time I pick up Skyrim or Fallout 3. I know it will get better and will get expanded upon. I hope BGS is not afraid to change systems or tweak things that need work instead of just adding on. We need to be able to trek planets better, perhaps even call our ships to us or give us a rover we can use for traversal. Perhaps reduce the average distance of POIs on the random worlds. If you want an RPG that will stick around for many years, this is your game. If you are not hellbent on playing it right away, wait for it to go on sale, they all eventually do.
