Fell in love with this game in 2018 after most of the (all free!) expansions were already added, although I was not very good to begin with on my first run. 3 runs across both PC and Nintendo Switch later, whilst also trying to complete a Steel Soul run (the single-life hardcore equivalent in this game), and I have gotten a lot better and still love Hollow Knight.

The highlights are very clearly its visual and aural appeal, along with controls and gameplay that leave you feeling extremely satisfied - or frustrated at yourself depending on your skill. It is very much a learn-as-you-go type of game with bosses and enemies requiring you to learn about their behaviours and devising a means to tackle them (often through trial and error), else you will be struggling before the real challenges hit.
The only downside I can bring to mind is that the game does not hold your hand at all, at any point throughout. This can put off new players who feel that the game is to blame for their losses whilst they're still learning/grasping the mechanics and gameplay without receiving any explanation of sorts. For some this is an opportunity for experimenting and discovery, but to learn all that there is to know will require an intricate deep dive spanning several playthroughs.

It's also quite pleasing to know the game was developed in my home country of Australia - and hopefully its sequel Silk Song is nearing the end of its initial development with the release coming soon.

It's one of those games that at first, it's quite difficult and you find yourself either put off by frustration, or driven by frustration to get better. Then once you're an MLG PRO at the game, you can shove your amazing yet pretty much useless talent in your friends faces and see them fail on their first attempt at this gem you've introduced them to. And so the cycle continues.
