I've played a lot of Black Ops.
And I loved the game for what it was, a fast paced shooter, with a bit of verticality but still without going to quake levels (which I later learnt I loved, but that's another matter), and low time to kill.

While I was burned on MW3 and stopped playing CoD, when I saw this open beta I thought I may as well try it, and see if Treyarch recaptured the feel from the original BO.

There is a low time to kill.
There is the verticality.
There is the customization.

So why I don't recommend this game?

There is everything I liked about the older CoDs, but it's all turned up to 11:

Double/triple jumping, hovering, wall running. That should count as verticality, but instead it feels tacked on: maps have many invisible walls, which stop you from being really free of moving where you want: you can jump over small obstacles, cars, or stuff like that. You can't jump over a wall and change where you really are in the map.
So, the only reason to use the thrusters are to avoid getting shot, but that means you HAVE to get a perk to reduce the Thrusters cooldown, else you are dead in the water if you didn't kill everyone in sight during that jump.

But killing people is hard, because the guns are wildly inaccurate without aiming down sights. But that kills the momentum. So all that part before about mobility, scratch that, you have to move slowly to ADS.
Unless you get a submachine gun. But that means all other weapons are weaker. Or you can camp, and lose what made this game different from other cods.

Oh, and aiming down sights is slow. Unless you use the specific weapon part to speed it up, and have the relevant perk.

Also, there is another really nice thing, class abilities. However, they charge really slowly, unless you have tons of kills, which means you're getting more streaks and so on. There is almost no way to win against a snowballing team because of this. Also, you can of course get a perk to improve abilities cooldowns, and I found it pretty much a must.

See where this is going? There is everything older CoDs had, seemingly improved, but instead, by going over the top they forced a single style of game, and most of the innovations are just nominal, and you can't really feel them during gameplay.

Then, there is the graphics issue. frankly said, the textures suck. Really, really suck. That's it. I expected more from a AAA game in 2015.
AntiAliasing is implemented terribly, so you'll need to inject something yourself.
Default options are terrible. For example, why is mouse acceleration on, but the screen ratio is 0.85 making everything blurry?
Also, most control options are unbound: I never saw anyone sliding, because there is no default key for that, even though it adds speed and gives you a way to dodge gunfire. Even the actions that have a bind usually use very inconvenient, and that betrays it's nature of a console port.

In the end, I can't recommmend this game to anyone, since it feels like a jumbled mess of system that mix very badly together. I hope the final release will be better, but as of now it just isn't a fun game.
