I have over 2000 hours in this game, yeah I think it's good.

Pros:

Insane Depth/Execution ratio. This game moves you to intentionality much faster than most fighting games because the mechanics at it's core (primarily movement) is very easy and non-demanding. The depth comes from understanding the interplay between many easy to execute systems.

Engaged community. The community is small, but highly active. Between friending people on steam and using the community discords, you'll have no problem learning about the game and finding matches.

Massive character distinction. Even with a small cast of 14 characters, each one is so massively different from the others that there's a lot to learn and a lot going on.

Fantastic balance. Literally every character regularly places in top 8s in tournaments, and every single character has won a major tournament at some point in time. There are "better" and "worse" characters, but not to the point of mattering for who you main. If you do make a tier list for the game, the gaps between the tiers are small enough that in any other fighting game every single character would be in S or High A.

Cons:
High average Level community/poor skill based matchmaking. This is a mixed bag to me. On one hand, the high average skill means that you're likely to find people who can help you learn. The downside is that a small, relatively skilled playerbase means it's very hard for a brand new player to find even matches. Discord helps, there are some good matchmaking servers to try and help new players find other new players or at least players closer to them, but that's really not a fantastic replacement for good in game matchmaking.

Not a ton of casual content. This is slightly less true with the release of definitive/workshop but ultimately the game is still geared toward competitive play. Things like Tetherball, Abyss mode, and Aether Stages are a lot of fun, don't get me wrong, but they're not going to carry you to 2000 hours in this game. Might still be worth picking up if you and a few friends enjoy smash casually and want something like it on steam, but tread cautiously, that might be more of a 30 or 40 hour game before you get tired of it instead of something you can just play endlessly.

Overall, if you like the idea of platform fighters and playing them competitively, this is a must buy. Easily the best execution of the genre since Melee, and personally it surpasses it for me.

Fine game. Good levels. Good pacing and variety. Bad Boss fights. 7 out of 10. Will be very fun to optimize movement through each level.
