This is a review after playing the story for an hour. I am playing using an Index.

Performance is pretty crappy for being on a 9700K overclocked to 4.8ghz all core and an RTX 2080 Super. The game does not look good enough or are the maps large enough for it to really feel like the performance is justified. There is only one graphics option, resolution. Low makes even the main menu unreadable and doesn't really help performance much. The single player levels are cut in to scenes. From what I played so far it is 10% shooting and 90% dialogue. It forces you into dialogues where you cannot do anything but stand around and wave your arms.

On to the most important part, the guns. How do the guns handle? First impressions are pretty bad. Every reload requires charging the gun regardless of when it was reloaded. The shotgun auto reloads when it is empty or puts in shells when a button is pressed. Guns also just overall feel off compared to any other VR FPS I have played. Now... the worst thing I have ever seen in a VR game so far, the scopes on the rifles. When you look through the scope, it fades in a 2D image of a rifle scope. Imagine zooming in on a rifle in a 2D game, that is what is plastered in your face when you look through the scope.

The game so far feels off and pretty boring. This does not feel like a AAA game. I would wait for a sale, I do not feel it is worth $60.

The game doesn't feel bad like "avoid this one bad" it just feels disappointing that this is what we get from a AAA studio backed by EA money. I do not feel it is worth $60 and I was not happy with how slow the game single player is at the start. I am too used to games that have more polished gun mechanics and provide more freedom when being fed story.

After waiting till just now to get my 3080, i can say that the game runs fine, it is pretty dry at the beginning though in terms of story. But it picks up. If you haven't already considered getting a better GPU for other games, then don't get one just for this.

Yeah CPU OC's can cause issues if they aren't stable enough but so far with a Ryzen 7 1700 OC'd and a RTX 2070 Super OC'd and an SSD, imo, and with 24GB of RAM, I have been able to get a consistent 60 to 80 FPS with occasional frame stutter that dips into the 20's.

Yes I am also watching the weather news.

@GUN I do not remember what driver version I am on. It is the version right before the known VR dropped frame bug with Nvidia drivers.

@Cappy FPS VR was showing the GPU being the bottleneck. I refunded the game so I am unable to retest it.

@Phat Trelly I would hold off on a 3080 for VR until the Nvidia driver bug that GUN mentioned is fixed if you can. I had that issue and it was pretty bad until I downgraded my drivers. The 3080 cannot be downgraded to before the bug was introduced.

just to make sure since you are using an index and an nvidia gpu, make sure your drivers are on version 446.14

all nvidia drivers after that have issues with performance in VR. its been an issue for the majority of this year and nvidia only last month acknowledged the issue. no ETA on a fix either

Just a heads up. CPU Overclocking is known to cause issues in games. You may wanna turn it off and see if that improves anything.
