I remember getting block fortress way back when it was on mobile, and to this day, block fortress wars is my all time favorite mobile game. When I saw a new PC version of block fortress, I knew I had to get it.

If you are like me, you may be adverse to block games after the flood of minecraft clones back in the day, but I assure you, this game is unique and worth your time, so please give it a try.

First impressions were admittedly negative. I felt the controls were unintuitive for PC, and after the tutorial ended I didn't even know exactly what I was suppose to be doing, I kept wandering around the base trying to activate terminals to select a level or something. However, I eventually figured it out, and I got used to the controls, and the game is definitely just a way better version of the original game, and I'm super happy about that. It did feel too difficult, but I did see a balance patch was released so perhaps that is fixed now. My biggest recommendation would be to maybe just make like the level select menu something that can pop up by interacting with it at home base, or if that is already a thing then lead the player to that, because that would have cleared up a lot of initial frustration and confusion. Then for that little tutorial, after the player opens the menu at some sort of terminal, the robo guy could tell them they can also open the menu by pressing esc or whatever.

In terms of gameplay, maybe it's just because I'm still early in the game, but it does kinda feel like the game doesn't promote building big fancy fortresses in survival mode because resources are very finite, and everything is quite expensive. Besides that, I think the gameplay loop is very fun, and I like the system of upgrading something upgrades it for the whole planet.

Lastly, please please please make a block fortress wars 2, or even release a dlc for block fortress 2 with a wars game mode.

Definitely going to pick up the full game, this is very fun! The performance is surprisingly good even when you go endless and get over 1000 units dealing millions of damage. I did encounter a bug in endless. I put a single stack of carnage onto some swordsmen next to a level 3 library, who already had like 50 stacks of the immune to first instance of damage card. When I placed the stack, the library immediately placed 2 more, then none of my other structures activated and no enemies came, soft lock run end. I had skip structure animations turned on, past round 100 but idk which round I was on. Not sure if any of that info will help diagnose the bug.

I don't usually play more story based games like this, but this was very enjoyable. Even emotional at times. I really liked that it was more than just making decisions though; I liked that you needed to visit different areas and interact with things and people. Amazing story writing, can't wait to see the next game! I may even play this one a few once or twice more to get the rest of the achievements.

So the only reason I'm giving this game a good review is because I got it on sale, and I think it's worth the sale price, I don't think it's worth the full price though. This is maybe a $5 quality game.

Pros: Simple concept and interesting mechanics. Multiple goals, and steady game progression. Fun little Easter eggs and side tasks from visitors.

Cons: Very bad late game balance of mechanics.

So your troops can get stressed and fatigued, and when these attributes get too high, you can't train your troops. As you play, you unlock stuff that reduces their stress or increases their stamina, but the problem is you unlock all of that stuff, and then there is no more. You have 12 troops, all of them completely stressed and fatigued, and you only have 4 facilities that can fix that, each only allowing one troop to use it per day. What's more is 2 of the facilities are for stamina, and 1 is for stress, and 1 is for both, and it really shows. Stress is basically impossible to deal with if you have a fully upgraded base. All of this could be easily fixed if you could just upgrade the size of the facilities to hold more troops.

The actual campaign you fight when the 12 weeks of training is over is cool, but the balance seems really off on that too. Basically all the stats you train besides shooting are inconsequential to the mission. Any stats gained from the mission are so small compared to training stats that they feel pointless. The M.O.D.s you can assign to troops are not very good, because they take a lot of effort to get, and they all have downsides bad enough that is basically cancels out their good sides. I imagine this was intended to encourage the player to diversify so you have several skills that have different roles to fill in combat, but the problem is their up sides are also so niche, they just don't have any particular benefit. I had better luck making all my troops basic infantry than I did trying to assign specialties.

Lastly, the training point system gets obnoxious at the end. unless I'm missing something, you have to spend all your training points to finish the training week. There is one way to spend them all at once, which is going on a group run, but if you send a single soldier to do a single thing, the option to spend your remaining points is gone, and you now have to meticulously spend all your points waiting for soldiers to finish their training. The best you can do is send them to the flag pole, which sends them to all 4 training sections once automatically and spends 4 points. There are some facilities that only allow 2-3 soldiers to train on them, and if you set more than that to auto train, it will spend your points and they will not do the training or get stats. Another way to reduce stress and gain stamina is to not train your troops, but if you are forced to spend all your points every day, the only way to not train your troops is to meticulously train a single troop well past the point of full stress and zero stamina so the others can catch a break. And if you do this, you can expect to spend what feels like 10 minutes doing nothing but micro managing a single guy to spend all your points.

Suggestions: Make some stats have a bigger impact on the mission, like maybe strength can add to your troops health, or intelligence could reduce reload time, or just something more tangible than what's there. Have more options to reduce stress and restore stamina. Have an option to end the day, and instead of having troops only regain stats from doing nothing, have them regain stats based on the number of training points left, that way there is no downside to having more training points. Nerf the downsides to M.O.D.s so they are at least a little more appealing.

Very fun and short game, worth the price! I got 100% of the achievements after 4 hours of play. One feature I think would be very nice to add, especially for late game on higher difficulties, is a toggleable auto upgrade button, so every time you refresh the store it will automatically buy any towers that can be upgraded. During late game I found myself just refreshing rapidly to upgrade the last of my towers, and frequently missing upgrades cause I was refreshing the store too quickly. But that's just a QOL feature, the game is fine without it.

Only kinda idle. You can leave it running while you do other stuff, but honestly it's pretty active for an idle game. If you don't mind that, it's a good time.

This game is under priced, I'd easily pay $15 for it. The graphics are gorgeous, the game play is addicting, the balance and progression are spot on, and the content is plentiful.

If you've ever played noita, the way you create your attack is very similar to the way you build wands in noita. You get organs that can trigger organs under certain criteria, attack, apply and buffs/debuffs. You can upgrade every organ, and a large component of the game involves replaying stages to farm organs to make yourself stronger. Every stage has 2 different organs you can get, so you need to plan out your build and go collect the organs to complete it.

There is more to explain and explore about the game, but I'd say that is the most important mechanic. I'll leave the other game mechanics for you to discover when you play for yourself. There is also currently a development road map, so I assume the game will only get better from here! If I were the dev, I'd probably raise the price a little after the road map is completed, maybe $10 at least.
