I think I might have summarized it somewhere earlier in my forum history, but I don't want to get too much into it for fear of restarting a war, but it boils down to Durf having some kind of issue with the devs and retreating from the game, The Guild making the modpack continuation since Durf wasn't maintaining it, Durf not liking that and having a feud with The Guild culminating in him deleting all his mods from the workshop.
That's the most basic way of explaining it. Anything else you can probably find explained somewhere else in more detail. Hope this cleared it up for you somewhat.
