Being a story nut, I haven't met an AC title I've completely hated, but Origins and now Odyssey have been some lovable romps through the respective mythos and history of Egypt and Greece. Some quests can get pretty basic given the scale of the game, but are made up for with some wonderfully crafted stories that can end a few ways. Plus, this chapter provides a proper return to my favorite part of Black Flag, the SEA! Javelins and arrows, sometimes on fire, setting your opponents ablaze on water is my next favorite thing to ghosting an entire camp of bandits, Athenians, or Spartans.

The weapon and ability systems have upgraded from Origins and I much enjoy the fact that obtaining the final piece to a legendary armor set will raise the whole set to your current level whether your carrying it around in your inventory or storing it on the Adrestria. Which is good, because if there is one gripe I have on the game, it's that upgrading legendary equipment (especially equipment many levels lower than you) can be an expensive chore. Finding Ancient Tablets in ruins to upgrade the Adrestria or rarer materials for equipment upgrades is a bit of a chore as well, but much worth it should you find yourself having a tough time. The triad balance of Hunter, assassin, and warrior give you options to play your way and you can spend your gold on additional loadout slots for quick swapping to the three roles or any mix you like.

Combat is kept quite varied with many old weapon types returning as well as a few extras, each standing out for their specialties in combat. Daggers, for example, are a great way to get multiple hits in to build up fire or poison damage from those abilities, while Heavy weapons like maces and axes will devastate your opponents that are slow to dodge.
