It's hard not to love a Star Trek game like this. It does a good job of letting you make a-canonical decisions, but it has a tendency to punish you for making those. B'Ellana seperated into Human and Klingon? Won't be able to use her for B'Ellana only story points. Let Tuvix live? Hope you don't need Neelix or Tuvok for anything for the rest of your trip home.
It uses an old base building version, just like XCOM or Fallout shelter, but it integrates relatively nicely. There are a lot of open spaces that I can't use - it may get unlocked later, or it may not. I wish it would make space easier to come by, so I could make the ship layout the way I want, and let me move rooms around better.
The RNG system also sucks. I like the 'crit' chance versus fail, but that's only when applicable. Not sure if there's a better way though.
Overall, it'sa very good game. It could use a few overhauls and more content, but that will come with time, I hope.

Needs work, but the bones are there. Disappointing release, but it's future seems optimistic, at the moment. I wish it wasn't quite so... arcadey.

It feels very different from the old Paradox strategy of releasing a base game to be expanded on later. As it stands now, it feels complete, with a strong foundation. The gameplay is good, and the (much) earlier startdate as compared to EU4 is a fresh take. Expansion hurts, and new territories are hard to control, and militaries still rely heavily on levees instead of professional troops. Diplomacy hasn't received a lot of love since EU4, which is unfortunate - it's the same formula pretty much - although the diplomats change is nice.
Now, for the elephant in the room. The UI is awful. I hated it when I saw it in the previews, and it's not better in game. It feels childish - and it seems to focus on the wrong things. Aside from the economy panel, tooltips are huge, panels cover the screen, and dear god, managing the new formations mechanic is bad. I can't tell the difference between my units, and the many icons of the economy or other features at a glance.
At the end of the day. the management side of the game is much more in depth than its predecescer, and the military and external affairs have been passed up. That is to say, if you liked EU4, and wish it was more like Victoria 3, or Stellaris you'll probably like this. If you liked EU4, and wish it was more like HOI4, you'll probably dislike this.

Absolutely spectacular foundation for a base building game. However, it needs a lot of work, and it definitely shows, but its in a playable state now, and I recommend it for anyone who enjoys detailed(ish) building with room for aesthetics without compromising efficiency.

As a long time player of games like Stellaris and Galactic Civilizations, this game is a refreshing new take on the space opera genre. Reminiscent of Star Dynasties, I found myself drawn into the intrigue and drama, with enough depth to keep me interested, and a somewhat strange lack of micro. I find myself wondering if I'm supposed to be doing more on occasion - it would be nice to have an alert system to notify me of things like missing ministers and other issues. The other most glaring issue it the writing. For a largely text based game, the writing has a lot to be desired, and could definitely use a touch up. Overall, an amazing game if you enjoy a more guided space opera experience.

Very challenging game that could see some new mechanics and rebalncing. The enemy suicide units are devastating and *require* micro to handle, and the enemy siege units have vast pools of health. Multiplayer is extremely fun, but it becomes obvious that the enemy needs to spread their attacks more to pose a better and more balanced challenge.
