Thank you for taking your time to share your thoughts about ESO and that you did not like the newest chapter Blackwood. We are sorry that this led to a negative experience since you feel the new companion feature is a gimmick.

Every year we like to do something different. For Blackwood, we focused on bringing a very different new system to the game… so we channeled our time and effort into the new Companions system, which will allow for a new experience in game. In the Blackwood chapter, Companions can be unlocked via quests in game, then leveled up and will provide you with a buddy whenever you need one in ESO’s PvE modes. This can add a variety of new ways to play the game with existing classes and build types.

Fighting alongside your Companion will improve their effectiveness and taking actions they approve of will build rapport. As you earn their trust and strengthen your bonds of fellowship, your Companion may share personal quests with you. You may also give them Companion-specific gear and customize them in a wide variety of ways, including setting their abilities, mounts, costumes, outfits, and more.
