A first (extra long) look:

So far, I find Sunset Hills very enjoyable. I'm somewhere in chapter two now, wondering how many there are. I know there are two for now, but how many extra chapters will we get with all the DLCs? I am just curious because I'm already looking forward to those.
I adore the hand-drawn, painterly look and the emotions it's evoked in me so far. I've smiled gently, laughed like a hyena and teared up a little, wondering what else is to come and how much the story, past and present, will unfold. The characters are great, given they all feel like they have their personality and stories. I'm also a big fan of the first song you hear on the train, sung by the lady. I hope it'll be present on the soundtrack.

However, no matter how much I like this little adorable good boi so far, I also have a few points of critique.
While most puzzles—that felt creative and fun, as I can say I haven't done a cat's game since elementary— are reasonably easy to figure out and felt natural and laid-back to solve to me, I have to say one made me gnaw on my inner cheeks. Nevertheless, I solved it in the end when I noticed I overlooked something silly because, of course... Lacking a hint button is slightly painful, and I'm scared to run into an even more complex puzzle and be stuck there forever and ever. But we'll see and root that won't happen.

My other point—and perhaps even more important than the one above—of critique is that the dialogue text can be very challenging to read; being relatively small for starters and occasionally having a light background behind it makes me squint my eyes. And there is no option to make this better for anyone. I still manage, but some people might not, and I genuinely think that is a shame and hopefully a point that'll be worked on in the future to improve this game for everyone.
I've also noticed that if there is auto dialogue, there were moments it went a little faster than other moments, and I missed some stuff since I'm a pretty slow-ass reader. That's a bit of a shame, of course, in a narrative-driven story.

So, for now, I can carefully recommend it if you can overlook a few minor flaws. These may or may not be patched or polished in the future.
In the end, I'm still glad I backed this one, as I think the work done so far is pretty good and enjoyable to play through.
Anywho, for now, back to the game. I have lost something important, and I need to find it. Heh.
