Early Access Review
Firstly, i appreciate that i'm writing an early access review. There's a lot of positive reviews out there for this but i think that's based more on the fact that there's been no new boxing game for 10 years and people are desperate for one.

It's janky, the movement doesn't flow, the animations don't flow. The mechanics are not as good as fight night champion that came out 10 years ago. I don't play it online so won't discuss that but the single player just isn't fun. You can't land many counters as the AI knows exactly where you're blocking (blocking the body is difficult given the button bindings)

Just not great and it breaks my heart to say it

UPDATED REVIEW SINCE CAREER MODE RELEASED

It's still just not right, i really want to like this game and play lots of it but i just cannot recommend it. The mechanics in career mode are just fine in terms of booking fights etc but the minute to minute gameplay still just feels robotic and not fun. Still cannot change this over to a thumbs up. Fight Night still feels better.

So i purchased Hunt Showdown when it was first released in early access and didn't really like it. I recently returned to it and stuck with it and put the time in to learn this game and i'm really enjoying it now.

Firstly there's a lot to this game and a lot to learn and although the basics of it are quite simple, the intricacies of it take time to learn, i'm about 70 hours in and still learning new things.

Basic Premise
  • Hire a hunter, find a team of up to 3 people
  • Drop in to a random spawn point
  • Find 3 clues
  • Kill the boss
  • Collect its bounty
  • Extract

    Good Points
  • Sound Design - The sound design in this game is excellent, the positional audio and the range of sounds you hear are almost perfect. You can hear gun fights across the map, alerting you to enemies. Footsteps can be traced and you can pinpoint where an ambush might be coming from. Not to mention the plethora of environmental clues and little sound cues you will hear.
The design also means that you'll need to be extremely careful about what sounds you make and when you choose to go loud with your weapons. Every shot you take will be heard by other hunters

  • Graphics and Environment - The game looks great, excellent atmosphere and great graphics. The Louisiana bayou looks amazing and is a really interesting and fresh setting to play in.

  • Weapons and Weapon Balance - Every weapon is feasible in Hunt and you can tailor your loadout well to suit your style, shotguns for up close, dual revolvers to make you feel like a cowboy and sniper rifles to pick people off from afar. Bullet penetration also works really well here and you can shoot through most wooden surfaces if you've got the right gun for the job.
There's a couple of weapons in there that could perhaps do with a nerf but for the most part they're the most expensive so not used as often.
You will also find a dazzling array of utilities and throwables to help you on your way as well as different ammunition types to customise your arsenal.

  • The gunplay here is pretty crisp, bullets go where you want them to. Headshots kill in one. There's no massive RNG in play and your skill will carry you through a tough fight.

  • Devs are very active and push new content and patches fairly regularly.

  • There is NO pay to win here at all. Any DLC is purely cosmetic. You can actually play without having to spent and additional money on it at all.

    Not so Good Points
  • Servers can be laggy and performance/hit reg can suffer as a result

  • Has a tendency to be incredibly sweaty, you'll often get killed by a random bush camper or exit camped as you try to extract with the bounty and this can be frustrating at times. There are ways to mitigate this but at the beginning it can try your patience.

  • Needs more maps and variety. There's 2 maps right now but both are kind of similar. A new map is scheduled to come out in the next few months.

All in all. I really recommend this game. Stick with it through the first 20 hours or so and you'll be hooked on it. The pros here far outweigh the cons and the game is still improving. The player numbers are on the rise and with the new map slated to come out in the summer i think it's a great game to get in to.

CS:GO Review
What's not to like about CSGO. Other than the cheaters and the regular toxicity of the community that is.

The game itself is great though!
