The Park is a mystery adventure psychological horror game, marked with a great atmosphere and a deep and puzzling story.
If this review is too long for you, I suggest you to only read the first paragraph about the game's content and the final verdict at the end.

What is happening in the game:
You are a mother of a boy, who lost his beloved teddy bear in an amusement park. As you get there, things become dark and twisted and your son wanders away. You call him back, but he doesn't respond, so you have to go find him yourself. Things start to become weirder and weirder, as you uncover the secrets of the park and, more importantly, your character's twisted mind.
Will you find your son and safely escape the park? Or will you become involved in a much darker experience?

Pros:
  • The Atmosphere | The developer placed great emphasis on the atmosphere and their hard work is definitely shown when playing the game. Although it's a horror game, it doesn't work on scaring the ♥♥♥♥ out of you with jumpscares, but rather offers frightening excitement, if that is a term. Sure, there are a few jumpscares, but this is not what The Park aims for.
  • The Graphics | Combined with the overall atmosphere, the way this amusement park looks and the way it feels you get an amazing experience. Throw in some well-placed fog, rusty Ferris wheel, creepy looking mascot and you get a whole collection of things that make this game play great. Check out the screenshots, as they are actually showing the real situation of this game's appearance (some of them could even make a great desktop background!).
  • The Story | As explained above, you are a mother of a son who gets lost in this park, but while searching for him, you as a player discover a pretty background of their story, including poor mental condition, depression, death and others. I really got dragged into this story and I felt sorry for both of them. This doesn't happen often to me, so I can safely assume that the writer did a really good job.
  • The Soundtrack | Every horror game needs a good soundtrack, so this one has one, too! It's some kind of mysterious music, but it raises tension when things are about to go downhill. If you are a person who gets easily scared, you can at some occasions use this to at least slightly prepare for the scary moment.
  • Achievements | You get those for every ride or discovery in the park, which is great, because it gives you the sense of progress and shows you how far you are into the game.
  • Bonus Items | This game is happening in the universe of Funcom's other game, The Secret World, so you get some in-game items for that game. I don't play it myself, but I guess it's good for some people.

Cons:
  • Game's Performance | This game has very high system requirements, which could be a problem for a lot of people. You would expect that this game would run just fine if you meet the "recommended" requirements, but it doesn't. I have twice as much RAM and an i7 processor, but this game can't even reach 30 FPS if ran on ultra/high quality. Some people with much better computers are complaining that they can't reach 60 FPS on any quality. I am used to playing on low, as I had a really bad computer before, but I know this will bother a lot of people and it really shouldn't be a thing.
  • Length | This game should take you about 90 minutes to complete, maybe even less, if you are not that kind of person who would pay close attention to everything a game has to offer. I mean, the gameplay is great and all, but I was still kind of disappointed. It's true, however, that you might want to repeat the whole game, in case you missed some achievements.
  • Languages | This game only supports English for now, so the developer should at least encourage fan translations for subtitles (for example, on Transifex).
  • Issues With Resolution | So, I have a 1280x1024 monitor. When I was choosing between different options starting with 1280x???, nothing would change. 1280x720, 1280x786, 1280x1024 ... they were all the same. However, when I took a screenshot, Steam only detected the middle part of my monitor, as I left my resolution setting on 720.
  • OS Support | Or specifically, the lack of it. You cannot play this game on MacOS or Linux. I did hear some rumours of the developer having this planned, so I'll remove it when support gets added.

The final verdict:
I can only give this game a big thumbs-up. I simply loved the atmosphere and I appreciated that small quantity of jumpscares, as they are (in my opinion) a bit overused. This game is very atmospheric, which is, in my opinion, an excuse for it's shortnes. The developers put a lot of hard work in this game and it would not be easy for them to maintain that tension and uneasiness for longer than 90 minutes.
I played this game in one sitting and I really enjoyed it. I'm not too sure about the price, but it's definitely worth taking a look at, if you have the money.

Greetings,
BirdCute
