I'm one of the beta testers for the game and I'm also learning Japanese as well! I'm super happy and grateful that I had the opportunity to be able to help at least a bit together with a lot of nice people!! I personally think is important to recognize the people working behind the game and Ryan is the only programmer in the game and always did a really good job at hearing everyone's opinion and feedback, including the community!! He has always worked really hard and been super nice about it.
The Kickstarter rewards also arrived perfectly and they are super cute!

About the game
The game gives exactly what it says: You learn japanese by taking your own pictures of objects around the world. You will have filters and borders to further customize your pics and make them even more pretty!!
All the photos taken will go to your album, which also includes japanese lessons with voice overs such as grammar and chatting, different japanese characters, etc. The thing I like the most about the lessons is the fact that they are very easy to parse due to it being in a way that's more casual rather than being too formal, making it easier to understand. It's kinda like having a friend explaining it to you lol
The music is also super soothing so I recommend to listen to it!!

I would say it's super good to hammer in common every day words even if you just plan to study a tiny bit in case you just want to travel and know the basics as the world allows you to get used to the overall Japanese feeling as well. I highly recommend mixing it with "Renshuu" to study!!

It counts with a mode that allows you to find the words you have found so far and separate them in categories, including a "Favorite" one that you can customize by picking whichever word you preffer, which can be specially useful when you have a lots of words collected and preffer to study specific themes or by a few words at a time instead to not get burned out.
You'll be rewarded for studying by getting coins that can be used for stuff like filters and sometimes you might even get a border so you can customize your photos more!

Overall, I recommend experimenting a lot with it and have fun! It's definitely a unique medium to learn Japanese that I haven't seen so far as it feels a lot more interactive without overloading you with too much info at once as it does a pretty good job at letting you control the rhythm you wanna go for when learning.
In my personal opinion as someone who still feels rather new to the language and is usually busy, I was able to quickly memorize new words pretty quickly and the grammar explanations helped out to quickly clear some doubts.

Also, the game has cute kitties and dogs and some fun easter eggs here and there!! And YES you can pat them!

Specs
I'm not gonna get super technical but I do wanna say that my computer might not be the best for other countries standards and these countries might categorize it as Potato! (Argentinian here)
I have a GT 740, i5 8400 and 8 GB of RAM and I'm able to run the game at stable frames. You are able to lock your frames at 30, 60, 144, 165, 240 or unlimited, which is highly appreciated. I'm able to run my game at stable 30s at 1600x900 Borderless resolution with settings on low with TSR anti aliasing or 60 with FXAA or nothing. Medium has stable 30fps and High gets to 30 and only dips to about 25 in busy areas. Game seems to be optimized pretty well considering its hard for me to get stable FPS on games nowdays!!

Summary
Long story short, I'm probably missing on a lot of stuff as usual but if you are looking to get started into Japanese, this game is really good for that. Usually I find it hard to find resources to get started as a self taught (specially since some might be too formal or could mention other topics you might never have heard of) and it can be time consuming to try and organize these yourself, specially if you want flash cards or learn basic grammar to get an idea of the language. Shashingo makes this easy as you are creating your own flashcards by exploring and taking pictures, which can be easily accesible in your album, allowing them to be used to play Find Mode, where you have to find these objects in the world of Shashingo! This way you'll be able to unlock filters and borders as well.
