pro tip: do NOT play the harder difficulty on a first playthrough

One of the first genuinely amazing VR games, in my opinion even topping experiences like Half-Life: Alyx and the FNAF Help Wanted games. The movement feels smooth and heavy, weapons and arms have a weightiness to them that makes hitting even the smallest roach feel like crushing a car with a monster truck. The fact that both movement and attacks are controlled by the arms is such an innovative idea, especially for a game that prides itself on its combat. Past that, the game itself is balanced well in terms of upgrades and replaceable parts. I haven't even beaten the first career at the time of writing this (although I did manage to kill the final boss at the same time I died), and even then I can tell that 100% of the content in this game is going to be an amazing experience.

TLDR: Online only with broken servers from launch making getting a match nearly impossible, even when going solo.

The game is good, but Starbreeze really needs to listen to the community about what they want rather than just forcing things they want into the game. Until this game is playable I'm keeping this review negative. I love the Payday series and have 1.5k+ hours on Payday 2, and this game feels like an letdown in terms of community support compared to it. This game is great in terms of gameplay, skill progression, graphics, etc., but forced online play and servers that fail to even create single player lobbies make this game impossible to play right now. If they somehow fix the servers, and especially if they make an offline mode, I will change this review to positive. For now though I sadly cannot recommend getting this game, despite how enjoyable the game itself is. An amazing game that you can't play will always be worse than a bad game you can play anywhere, and until this game becomes playable I don't have a reason to even open it.

Genuinely an amazing experience, and one I can recommend to literally anybody. With fun, intuitive gameplay and amazing designs around the map, this game is definitely one of the best I've ever played. Even if the artstyle seems too childish or cartoony, the game itself truly feels real, with real characters inhabiting it, and the problems they face being... understandable, and most of all relatable. Get this game, especially if its on sale, it might just be something you love.
