Ah ♥♥♥♥, I may have had been busy after checking the notification on my phone and forgot about your comment after.
To my knowledge no, I haven't dabbled in map changing that much yet.
The closest thing I can think of from your conclusion is using changelevel and manually recreating all the intro functionality like I/Os via scanning the appropriate entities responsible for it, but that would be a pretty tall order since all of it has to be timed right for when the actual game fires them to properly sync everything.
