I don't have much usage time on here because I have been using Defold since 2017, long before it was on Steam. Defold is sometimes billed as "the ultimate game engine for web and mobile" - but I'd like to highlight that it is capable of so much more. My game Fates of Ort is made in Defold. It is a complex isometric RPG for Win/Mac/Linux. Take a look at the trailer to get a feel for one example of a complex desktop game that could be made in Defold.

Things I love about Defold:
- Ease of use. I moved to Defold from Flash. I had previously looked at Unity but was put off by the complexity.
- Lua. It's not for everyone, but I love the language.
- 2D focused. I want to primarily make 2D games, so that's a good thing for me.
- Platform flexibility. Releasing Fates of Ort on Windows, Mac, and Linux was a breeze. Now working on trying to get a Switch version out there!
- The community. The forums are incredibly friendly and full of helpful people.
- Free!

Edit: Still here in 2023 and happier than ever. Fates of Ort was released on Switch. I have released Void Scrappers in 2022 (including Switch) and currently working on BORE BLASTERS. All made with Defold!
