I’ve developed a strange fascination with games that force you to unwind layered, complicated puzzles- dropping tons of intel on your head and telling you to just figure it out. There’s something about the process of getting invested as you learn more, slowly slipping into the shoes of a wordless protagonist. Letting yourself get obsessed and falling into one rabbit hole after another as you start to understand the world you’re inhabiting. The feeling of immersion you get at the apex, when all the pieces start to click and the mystery unfolds before your eyes, is exactly why I play games. With its cozy turn-of-the-century aesthetic and “investigative jazz,” The Roottrees Are Dead got me interested in genealogy in ways I had no idea were possible.

Frustratingly rewarding and overflowing with surprises. Blue Prince is unlike anything I've ever seen before. Chock full of rich story for those willing to roll up their sleeves and go looking for it. Cannot recommend enough. Ovinn Nevarei ♥

A game for those who would do anything for love, even if it means endless carpentry work. Simple but frustrating controls lend to an experience reminiscent of QUOP. Makes for an excellent gift game!
