NekoPara
It's a Neko Paradise!

Preclaimer
- This is an Adult Visual Novel, designed to be R18, which is why I consider the R18 content part of the whole and will include it in this review. If for whatever reason you are not interested in this content or aren't legally allowed to play it, you should just skip this review.
- Since many visual novels are similar in a bunch of ways, I'm gonna review this one on a few common aspects, including reference to other VNs aswell as giving independent explanations.

Graphical & Technical Quality
The NekoPara Franchise is a well know milestone in the world of Visual Novels. Featuring an amazing artstyle that can also be seen in "The Ditzy Demons are in Love with Me", full fledged Emote Engine Live2D throughout the entire game (aka. fully animated characters), a nice soundtrack and a solid Engine foundation with a modified KiriKiri Engine version.

This gives us common features like up to 80 individual save slots whose description you can individually change, quick saving and loading, auto and skip mode with adjustable behaviour, basic customization options (which can be further changed through the hidden advanced settings) and an overall smooth performance.

NekoPara even throws it's own share of gimmicks into the mix, for example a slider setting to modify the physical behavior of a certain body area *hint hint*.

On the downside though, NekoPara is a 720p VN resulting in noteable quality loss on normal 1080p monitors in fullscreen and beyond. Also, being the oldest part of the series, it has some minor hicups like broken idle lip sync when skipping a dialogue with a running animation too fast.

Content & Runtime
What can you expect from NekoPara?
Of course not spoiling the actual story, it is an overly cute, very lighthearted romance story with the usual amount of comedy mixed in, making it a nice game to enjoy whenever you feel the need for cute Nekos doing cute things to brighten up your mood.
Except for the generic "wake up" moment of sudden emotion there isn't any real story to it, other than Slice of Life from the view of our male protagonist.

Even though, the characters have distinct personalities making them unique and offering a wide variety of archetypes you might enjoy.
The male protagonist is absolute average, going with the carefree theme of the story. And while Volume 1 focusses around the first two of them, NekoPara as a whole features 6 heroines (and the wannabe heroine sister) in a perfectly peaceful harem situation.

Which brings us to the most important point:
NekoPara is a completely linear novel with absolutely no choices whatsover. That means if you don't like the harem setting you have no way to get around it, and that also means the average playtime (not rush skipping) is around only 10h.

The gallery is available from the very beginning, allowing you to enjoy the 22 CGs, 7 SD artworks, 15 OSTs and all "Scenes" and movies again - as long as you already saw them ingame that is.

The R18 content
Even though the R18 DLC costs almost as much as the base game, it's worth it not only for the sake of having the full game.

Even in the H department NekoPara is going all out with animated (GIF loop-ish) H-scenes, 3 of them in total, and accompanying sound effects (if you like them or not is up to you, you can mute them). You also, as usual, get a few "uncensored" CGs that otherwise would have been less nude.

Though funnily someone wanted to be extra, extra careful about sharing the R18 content - even though it's still mosaic censored and hence legal even in Japan - because the game itself surpresses it by auto blurring Steam screenshots from R18 scenes, switching the game to All Ages when Steam streaming and forcefully exits when trying to stream while in a said R18 scene. Though most people won't be bothered by any of that anyway.

When it comes to the depictions of bodily fluids, the inhuman stamina of the actors or even the whole act in total - let's just say it's "as unreal as a perfect catgirl harem paradise", so expect a lot.
Other than the absolute basic hentai amounts of SM tendencies though it's pretty vanilla.

Conclusion
Is this game worth it?
While I do agree that NekoPara is mighty expensive, being only slightly cheaper than the average 60h multi route VN while only featuring 10h of linear story, it's still a very good VN. If you don't have something awesome of said multi route caliber in your to buy list or just have a severe craving for cute catgirls, buying the bundle in the next sale is your best bet. Unless you are too impatient, then buying it right now is an option too.
As an "I'm still unsure" alternative, there is an anime level OVA version of Vol.1 (even here on Steam) which you could look into.
