Possible good news, fellas
Hi, maybe it isnt too much, but we have a small possibility this game enters on steam in a near future thanks, partially, too me.

Why so? Well, meanwhile i was lurking in some studio sales, come to my attention that one company was selling a huge ammount of old video games, some of they old rts. This didnt impress me at first, but then i found out the shadow man, an old acclaim game. My brain immediattly linked it to machines, since both of them are from the same publisher.

Any case, i searched about the studio who was behind the publication of those old titles, its name is NIGHT DIVE STUDIOS. Basically they are a studio dedicated to bring old titles back to us. I send them an email asking if they know about machines and the possibility of bringing it to steam, and for my surprise they answered it.

Here a transcrition of those emails:

Me:

"Hi, I noticied your promo on steam and will buy some games (still making a catalog), i noticied you guys bought a lot of old titles and i should complement you for it, since its something that rarelly we see any company doing.

I got pretty surprised, thought, when i got my eyes in shadow man, "yeh, those guys are pretty badass".

Anyway, this bring me a ideia; did you guys know Machines - wired for war? Its a mix of RTS with first person shot. I knowed this game since i was kid because of a demo on Turok 2. The only explanation why this game hadnt become a classic, for me at least, its because the studio bankrupt. Just take a look and go see if it interests you to bring it back. I would get pretty happy to play its campaign mode on steam.

Sorry for any grammatical errors, english is not my native language."

Night Dive Studios:

"Greetings HSA,

Thanks for the kind words. I had never heard of that game before but it definitely looks interesting.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention, and thanks for the support!

Stephen"

As you can see, it was a short reply, however its brings a lot of hope. If those guys are capable of getting the rights of the shadow man it wont be hard to get of machines.

Furthermore, im not saying that you guys should flood their email entry asking them to put machines on steam, however i think some more emails supporting the game will be pretty good.

yeh, but it doesnt make sense, since the reason they send machines its because living creatures couldnt resist to travels faster than light

Hmn, i doubt it would work. The game is good, but unknow. Also a plot isnt something that you can just hire a guy who wasnt involved in the game to do; we just dont know what the original producers were planning to the machines 2.

I mean, where are the humans? Why some planets have terrestrian vegetation if supposelly nothing life come from earth after so many time?

Maybe nothing of this matters if the producers didnt thought about back then, who knows.

Well, actually I talked with one of the lead developers of Machines. Machines 2 was never really discussed as they moved on to 'The Art of Magic' after Machines. Then Charybdis got liquidated by their parent company weeks before TAoM was released. Pretty crappy timing.

Anyway. The story is of the least concern. We just want shooting robots, right?

On wiredforwar.org:
- You can download the game for free
- You can download the modification tools for free and start modding yourself
- We are busy creating Skirmish map/types for Machines 1 (We currently have:

Onslaught
You start in the center of the map and have to survive for 15 minutes as enemies pour in from all sides.

Arena
You start in the small map with 4 players and you get new reinforcements every 30 seconds for a couple of minutes

Testing Grounds
Each player starts with 6 units. We currently have maps for: Reaper, Commandant, Knight, Goliath and Judas Warlord.

(The download page needs to be set up, though)

- I'm busy creating more types of mods, such as:
Hunted
You are an advanced spy and hunted by 20 Machines + Turrets for 15min

Hunter
You are an assassin warlord or Judas warlord and you need to destroy all enemies

Resource Wars
You are unable to build locators and all mines are already constructed. Defend your mines!

Assault
You start out small and the enemy starts out massive. Think you have what it takes?

Invasion
You start out with a set amount of BMU's, no constructors and a few war factories. With these you have to build Machines and destroy the enemy. Take over mines/smelters/transporters to gain more credits as you go on. (Taking over is done by standing next to them, just like the Reclamation of Talonthia 8 Campaign map)

Satellite War.
Just like Satellite Shootout, but with different maps.

We're also busy setting up Machines 2. We've extracted ALL 695 MODELS FROM THE GAME. (Which was very hard to do). We have all the textures. If you have any experience with game engines (Unity 5 or Unreal Engine 4) please help us out! We have everything we need for Machines 2!

Thats pretty impressive, overlord. Do you keep contact with the dev? What he thinks about this all?

Anyway, I just disagree with this;

The plot is pretty cool, and well, even if you disagree, you need to fill up machines 2 with some excuse to the robots fights, dont you?
That's wonderful news to hear, if Machines booms again thanks to steam we can have mods and bugfixies and possibly maybe machines 2 . Keep it on friend and thanks for your dedication :D
Response to my email:

Hey Classic Game fan,

Machines is something we've been looking at closely. We have a strong lead on the property and will be making an effort to secure it for a re-release, but I can't make any promises :)

Thanks for your support!

everything going as planned
I was looking online for some news about this game and I saw your steam group.

If the game successfully get to the steam market, that would provide a way to promote the game and to get it to work properly... which would be awesome.

Any news about this?
I just wanted to say that Ive been following this group for a little while, here and there. Ive always been a huge fan of Machines. It was one of my favourite games growing up.

After reading all of this I decided to email that publisher my self and I will let you guys know what they respond with! Its been almost a year since that last post about it so Im excited to see what they say!
I just got a reply back:

Hey Andrew,

Funny you should ask, we recently acquired the rights to Machines and are working on a re-release - can't say when it will be ready though :)

That sounds good.
so, what about it?
I will take a look, to see if there is any news on this. Meanwhile, we should continue to work on getting Machines to work with Wine reliably, so that interest grows further.
I didn't see anything about Machines specifically yet, but Shadow Man (one of the two games that had a demo included with Machines, the other was Re-Volt, an RC car racing game) is available from them here and elsewhere now, so that's a good sign.
