Whirled Club - Latest Whirled Mirror
Whirled Club, the most current Whirled mirror
[www.whirled.club]

The history between Whirled and it's community is a story of passion to hold onto legacy. Originally it was developed by the company Three Rings (often stylized as "OOO"), and it reached to the Open Beta stage of development (usually referred to now as Early Access). Three Rings partnered with Sega to create another game in the meantime, Spiral Knights. After Spiral Knights' success took off and garnered a community sizeably larger than Whirled's, Sega eventually bought Three Rings. After sometime though, Sega closed down Three Rings quietly, not too much being said. The original founders of Three Rings couldn't bear to close down their games Spiral Knights and Whirled, alongside their bigger older brother Puzzle Pirates. Instead, they opted to ask Sega for the rights of their games back to take with them, which they then set up under another organization under Three Rings founders, Grey Havens (a Tolkien reference). Before long though, development on the game eventually started to stagnate. The community was still happy that the game stayed online, while some of the content creators for Whirled wanted the developers to call an end to the game, instead of letting the game and its community wither away unceremoniously. While some viewed them as folk chanting "the end is nigh", they may have been prophets after all- eventually, Whirled had stopped loading altogether.

Sometime that same year, one of the original game devs had posted up an info document to the source code to GitHub with the first header as "Abandon hope all ye who enter here" It states that the source code is open to whoever wants to get their own mirror of Whirled smacked together, but warns that you need a lot of proficiency in various fields of programming, and a whole lotta time. Some people in the community took up the challenge, seeing it as their only chance to continue playing the user-empowered game that they've played for years now and better yet, contribute. This lead to several iterations of Whirled appearing over the years, such as Synced Online and Glowbe. The most recent (and as far as I'm aware, the only functional) iteration is Whirled Club[www.whirled.club]. I am just now finding this myself, and I just made my account. (add me![www.whirled.club])

I think it would be neat if we could join in and poke around a bit (even though nowadays most browser asks strongly that you don't use Flash, since even Adobe is ending support for it by next year. apparently a possible solution is in the works.). If anyone decides to join, be sure to post your profile link here!
