Nope! Actually, it was due to a trade issue. Some guy wanted to bypass the tarriff that was imposed on vegetables saying that tomatoes are fruits, which they are (botanically). But the Supreme Court said that it was a vegetable, so he still ended up having to pay :P

They made it a vegetable because withcraft in 1800's

Did you know that, in 1893, the Supreme Court (of the United States) ruled that tomatoes are a vegetable? The state of New Jersey cited this to make it their state vegetable, even though it's technically a fruit. Little interesting thing for those of you who like tomatoes or something.
