What is the purpose of creating Booster Packs
I have several booster packs for several different games. I have enough gens to pack number 8. What I'd like to know, before I make 8, is whats the point of making these things? Seriously, do they save any purpose other than something to do with gems?

Create badges, you can't get all the cards to create a badge.

This does not answer the question.

You create booster packs to have more cards for some game, so you can have a chance to complete the badge.

...and whats the reason to create badges? How does it help? Does it help?
Is this just something to do?

You get levels, so you can invite more friends and have more options to personalize your profile.

If you're actually considering making booster packs, take a look at the market valuations first.

I've got nearly 40 games that I can make booster packs for, and only 1 of them is economical. I'd be better off converting the gems into sacks of 1000, selling them, and then buying cards with the proceeds. The only reason the remaining game is economical is because no one plays it and cards are scarce. But since no one plays it, no one is interested in buying the cards either. So it's really only economical to make that booster pack if I was considering buying the cards...

EXAMPLE - It'd take 667 gems to make a Psychonauts booster back. That's ~C$0.60 worth of gems. The booster pack only sells for C$0.10. Most games have similar economics.

Good advice thank you. Once you have a booster pack what do you do with it? Sell it? Sit on it forever? Unpack it for some reason? Does it enhance anything aside from your level? If you unpack or sell does your level decrease?

Once you've got a booster pack, you have a few options:

1. Unpack to gain three cards from that set (with the same ~1% chance of getting a foil that you have with regular card drops).
2. Sell it in the market.
3. Trade it for any other tradeable item.
4. Hold onto it until later.

The booster pack itself does nothing to your level. Your level can only increase, and it only increases by completing badges, adding games to your library, or adding "years of service" to your Steam account.

Ahhhh so it's for the chance to pull a foil if you already maxed out your badge for example on CS:GO
