Software solutions and tutorials
This topic is a compilation of tips and tricks, and also tutorials and actual software, with which you can enhance the 'touch-friendliness' of your favorite games. You're welcome to submit your findings here, as well as discuss anything related to the topic. Anything noteworthy will be put in this post, so there's no need to comb through the topic if you don't want to.

Software list:
  • TouchAnyway[www.microsoft.com], paid, $9.99 (There's a free version[www.microsoft.com] as well, but it's fully Chinese; you will also need a free 'engine' part for either version, a backup available here[dfiles.ru], detected as a virus by several AVs because of the key hook)
  • PalmTime VirtualGamepad[palmtime.net], donationware (with demo pad), starting from $5.00, seems to be abandoned
  • TabletPro[tabletpro.com], paid (free trial), starting from $9.99
  • Logitech Gaming Software[support.logitech.com], freeware, creates a virtual mouse device for games requiring one to be connected
  • StrokesPlus[www.strokesplus.com], freeware, allows to associate a gesture to a keyboard key (and much more)
  • TouchMousePointer[www.lovesummertrue.com], freeware (free for personal use), creates a virtual touchpad on the screen

Virtual gamepad
Can anyone suggest a virtual gamepad that can be used on a tablet with Steam games that need a gamepad? There used to be Gesture works, but that's vanished. I guess they could never get it to work in Windows 10.

It's a necroanswering, but might be useful. My favorite is TouchAnyway, since it's simple to setuop. Unfortunately, their site is dead but I have engine part backed up (it was free download anyway). Paid part is what actually uses the engine and it's available in Windows Store.

Second best bet would be Virtual Gamepad (palmtime.net). It's usable, but not developed anymore.
There's also Overwolf Touchscreen, but I have no personal experience with it.

Virtual mouse software and games list
I wonder if it would fit the group's topic. I am using TabletPro with relatively simple controls scheme which makes playing many turn-based or pausable rpg/strategies playable. Not always comfy, but playable.
Should I post on games I successfully played here?

Here's the list of non-Steam stuff. I can add TabletPro there, or I can add the games you've tested with a note beside them like "Works well with TabletPro". A tutorial for any touch software is always welcome too.

Cool. Since it's they're not inherently touch-friendly I'll make some basic tutorial and list along with limitations.
It might be too basic since kid takes most of my waking time, but might benefit someone)

Quick note: I merged two previous threads about virtual gamepads in this one. I think one unified thread would be much better. I also pinned this thread so it's easier to find it.

Tablet Pro has tweak touchscreen function (named tablet pro) with than you can enable right mouse click with two fingers usefully in some games (aka Skyshine Bedlam, Halcyon 6 is full touchables with that) . Virtual GamePad is a great tools with many function BUT this run only in window mode games......However you can USE THIS WITH BORDERLESS TOOL AND YOU CAN PLAY ANY WINDOWED MODE GAME FULL SCREEN WITH GREAT TOUCH CONTROLS!!!!

For some games asking for a mouse to be connected, Logitech Gaming Software does the trick by installing a virtual mouse driver. The oldest available version (5.10) works and takes much less hard drive space.
Also, for games that requires pressing a key ("escape" to enter the menu), StrokesPlus is great, as it allows to associate a gesture to a keyboard key (and much more).

I have purchased the TabletPro's virtual gamepad, but it's a bit meh.. You have to play in windowed mode in order to get it work. Therefore you cannot play in lower resolutions to increase your performance, you need to play in your screen's native resolution. On my device (Surface Pro 3 i3) this turned my games laggy, so I've had to pass on this.

If you are happy to these downsides, go for it then. I mean it does work, although the installation can be a bit of a mess. Also it is free to try out for 14 days, so you do not have to buy it to try it out.

A blast from the past? Anyway, still pinned, so I'll reply here.

Tested on a MS Surface Pro 7+, Windows 11.

  • TouchAnyway. Both paid international and free chinse-only link do not work. It says "may not be available in your region", so this may be Austria/Europe-specific.

  • PalmTime VirtualGamepad. It is now a free download, but does not seem to work at all anymore. There is a menu bar, but the symbol that looks like it should add buttons shows an empty submenu only.

  • Tablet Pro. Store entry tells you to download Tablet Pro Studio instead.

  • Tablet Pro Studio. The included gamepad works okayish. Out of the box only a mapping to keyboard keys work.

XBox controller emulation depends on Kinomi Streamer, which cannot be downloaded; Tablet Pro Studio's backup download link does not work.

Don't expect to play difficult side-scrollers with it though, they require the quick inputs of a physical device.

Includes a fullscreen virtual touchpad mode which is vastly more useful than the on-screen virtual touchpad built into Windows 11.
@Yael, hey, thanks for checking them out! It's been a while for these tools, it's a pity they are not available anymore. I'll look into what's available now and edit the post to reflect it.

Recently, I've found this tool https://github.com/mpaperno/TJoy but life got in the way of playing around with it as life always does... In theory, it should be working quite nicely, but I couldn't find any videos of people demonstrating it (what's with the name, TJoy? Can't google anything about you), and all I've seen were the pictures inside the repo itself. You might want to try it out since it should be able to emulate a controller, but yeah, usually, anything that requires quick input is difficult to play with touch controls in any form.
