A tad confused about hitmarkers
I may be wrong, but I kind of remember that some time ago there was written, in the crosshair management, something like "use this crosshair as hitmarker", while now there's a management on opacity on hit. I think it may be the same thing?

Also, does that function keep the color decided, or would it change color for teams? If it's the first one, is there a way to use that crosshair as a team colored hitmarker?

And a last question:
I remember that once I asked in this group about crosshairs, and it was told me they are in vtf format.
Given I may find some tutorials online (and I'm sure there are) and I would like to make my own ones, where should I locate them for crosshair/hitmarker use?

"Change opacity on hit" allows you to make a hitmarker of a crosshair. When you hit an enemy, crosshair changes it's opacity. Before it used to change opacity from 0 to X. Now you can also change the start value.

So basically if you want a hitmarker that you can't see unless you hit an enemy, you set it like this: image[embed.gyazo.com]

Team-colored hitmarkers have to be made separately. Atm there's only one team-colored hitmarker, which is a circle and set on by default.

Crosshair VTFs are located in toonhud/materials/vgui/replay/thumbnails/xhairs folder. Crosshairs are set in toonhud/resource/ui/hudplayerhealth.res. You should probably replace one of the existing crosshairs. Create a theme, select one crosshair, save and download it. You can see the filename in the download panel:

crosshair1 ------------------------------------------------ Crosshair1 shape = 'vgui\replay\thumbnails\xhairs\xhair20' [toonhud/materials/vgui/replay/thumbnails/xhairs/xhair1.vmt]

In this case, you would replace xhair20.vtf with the one you made.

First you create 64x64px sized PNG file. Then you convert it to VTF with VTFEdit[nemesis.thewavelength.net]. Here's settings I've used for crosshairs: image[i.gyazo.com].

If you have good ideas for crosshairs, feel free to send them to me and I may add them to the hud. :)

Ok, I just created my custom team colored hitmarker/crosshair.
It is inspired on the default shotguns/flares/etc crosshair, without the point at the center. It is also way thicker, making it perfect as an hitmarker, without covering the center point of the crosshair.

However I forgot to save the project for modification, so I have only red and blue version, my bad.

Here are the files if you or anyone is interested:
