Tank Run Guide
General

Differences
  • Tanks are the only Special Infected that will spawn.
  • Common Infected spawns are disabled outside of certain events.
  • Common Infected mob sizes are reduced.
  • Survivors and Tanks will not block each other.
  • Physics objects react less to Tank punches.
  • Survivors are fully healed at the beginning of each round.

Survivors

Notes
  • Tanks are slowed down while they are being shot.
  • Molotovs do not speed Tanks up in Left 4 Dead 2.
Differences
  • Limping speed begins when at under 25 health (default: 40).
  • Incapacitation will instantly kill your character.
  • Medkits fully restore health (default: 80% of lost health).
  • Medkits require 2.5 seconds for use (default: 5 seconds).
  • Pills grant 100 temporary health (default: 50).
  • Temporary health decays at twice the default rate.
  • Adrenaline increases your speed by 33% (default: 24%).
  • Adrenaline grants no extra health (default: 25).
  • Friendly fire is disabled in all difficulties.
  • Survivors automatically recover themselves from ledge hangs after 2 seconds.
Advice
  • The first Tank spawns immediately after the game begins, and the rest every 12 seconds. Get moving!
  • During survival-style finales the spawn rate is reduced - but you have to kill all the Tanks to proceed. Get shooting!
  • You are given adrenaline and drop pills at the beginning of each round; if you choose to take the pills, use your adrenaline first for the speed boost!
  • You can run through Tanks as if they were teammates so you can't be blocked at bottlenecks.
  • Tanks move slightly faster than you so it's worth backpedalling and shooting at them to slow them down, but make sure you know where you are going.
  • Automatic guns are more effective for slowing Tanks, but reloading takes a while and can be interrupted. Shotguns are reloaded by the shell, meaning you won't get stuck without any ammo.
  • Bile jars will summon a small mob to attack any covered Tanks, slowing them down and even killing them. Once either the targets die or 1 minute has passed however the mob will turn on the survivors, so be prepared.
  • As the Tanks have 3 times their normal health, stacking flame damage and/or bile jar mobs with heavy gunfire is the most effective way of putting one down when you must.

Tanks

Differences
  • Tank health is 3 times the default.
  • Tank punch cooldown is increased by 1 second.
  • Tank rock throw cooldown is halved.
  • There are 12 of you now.
Advice
  • A close range rock strike will stumble a survivor long enough to let you get a free punch in.
  • Punching the Survivors into corners and obstacles can significantly slow their progression and will often lead to a quick death.
  • Try to punch survivors off high ground to cause extra fall damage, or even an instant death.
  • You won't catch up to a Survivor by chasing directly behind them if they're shooting at you. Use shortcuts or racing lines to get ahead in the map instead.
  • If you are ahead and in sight of the Survivors, try throwing rocks at them until they catch up to you.
