No sound with ALSA and ArchLinux x86_64
Hi, I just ask for your help because I have no sound with Steam for a few days. I tried a lot of stuff so start Steam with this command:

SDL_AUDIODRIVER = alsa steam

It was walking yesterday to play Counter Strike Source, but the estimated delivery impossilble have any sound! I completely reinstall Steam, I run several commands "export SDL_AUDIODRIVER=alsa", but nothing works. I usually have nothing to do, the sound works without problem.

I have this error when i lunch Counter Strike Source :

SDLAUDIO: SDL_OpenAudioDevice() failed: ALSA: Couldn't open audio device: No such device or address

I use Arch Linux x86_64 on a Toshiba laptop with the owners of Ati drivers.

Thank you for your help!

What .so files are in your game directory?

You can try renaming the LibSDL2-2.0.so.0 file and then symlinking your system wide library to it. Although that could also break it further. I had a similar problem with SPAZ but it was the version of OpenAL included with it.

Last time I knew, Steam has a Pulseaudio dependency (because they released it mainly for Ubuntu) this could have changed, as it's been a while since I've logged into my Linux partition. However if all else fails, installing Pulseaudio is the least of your concerns (just make sure you install the libs that makes alsa play nice with pulseaudio (easy to find with a quick pacman -Ss alsa and find those that mention pulse.))

I think the problem is not Steam but my installation. I tried ETW on my machine and its not working:

------ Initializing Sound (1) ------ SDL_Init (SDL_INIT_AUDIO) ... ALSA lib dlmisc.c: 252 (snd1_dlobj_cache_get) Can not open shared library / usr/lib32/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_equal.so OK SDL audio driver is "(UNKNOWN)". SDL_OpenAudio () failed: No available audio device Sound initialization failed.

I installed pulseaudio-alsa and its 32-bit version, but I still have no sound: (

Edit : i have installed lib32-alsa-plugins and the sound worked with ETW

I think I found the problem:

Unknown command "weapon_accuracy_mALSA lib dlmisc.c: 272 (snd1_dlobj_cache_get) Can not open shared library / usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_equal.so

It is not libasound_module_pcm_equal.so, which is normal because the file is located in / usr/lib32, / usr/lib/i386 relates Ubuntu!

Is it possible to specify a directory to lib32 to my Steam?

I solved my problem. I uninstall alsaequal and remove the file ~/.asoundrc.

What DE do you use? I never had problems with Arch Linux and Gnome wich uses pulseaudio by default.
