GPUs: Nvidia vs AMD on SteamOS?
Well, maybe there are a few discussions about this but the key of this one is to compare Nvidia and AMD with the actual SteamOS updates and actual drivers from both companies.
I knew that Nvidia is the winner and the best choice for our SteamOS, but AMD stills behind?
They maybe put a revolutionary update for Linux?

That's the point. Otherwise i'm into buy a new GPU and this can help one or two people out there.

Also we can take the point of differences of prices and performance between both.
In my country for example:
Nvidia GTX 960: U$D 390
Radeon R9 280: U$D 373

If I remember well, the RADEON GPU's ALWAYS had problems with OPENGL (I don't know the actual situation)...

PS:

Reading about this, I found something curious:
The Liverpool GPU (Playstation 4) is not DX compatible, but is indeed OPENGL 4.2 compatible...

The fact that Orbis OS is a fork of FREEBSD (Unix), and the fact that SteamOs is a fork of Debian (Linux=Unix clon), makes me see SteamOS and OrbisOS as cousins...
So, I see potential portability between games for OrbisOS and games for SteamOS.. Both Metro Redux are solid evidence of that.

Well, of course it isn't. It's not like Microsoft is ever going to allow the use of DirectX on OSs/Devices that aren't their own, anyway.

What's funny is Linux actually does have a native DirectX 9 (well Direct3D 9) implementation in Mesa's Gallium3D. It's used exclusively for a special Wine versions but one could theoretically develop native Linux games using Direct3D 9 and it would work! However, games that use Linux Direct3D would require the open-source AMD (r600g & RadeonSI) or Nvidia (Nouveau) drivers; the proprietary graphics drivers nor Intel drivers are supported.

SteamOS 153 / VaporOS 2 is does not work with the GTX 960 :(

Really?
So, how I can expect to buy the GTX 960 if SteamOS doesn´t work? :mcpixel:
My question is:
The GTX 960 never work on SteamOS or just the update 153 made some mistakes?

That is because the card is too new. The chip was released in January 22 and is supported from the driver 346.35 and up.. SteamOS, at this moment, use the 343.22, that is outdated for that GPU...

So the same fate has the 970 and 980.
Maybe we can pray for the next update of SteamOS
