Install SteamOS on an Acer Nitro 5 laptop
I tried installing SteamOS on my Acer Nitro 5 laptop but the install failed. I've looked at other discussions about what bios settings that need to be changed (like turning off Secure Boot). The boot mode is set to UEFI but the bios itself isn't UEFI. I know what UEFI bios looks like because I can modify my desktop bios with my mouse pointer. It's true UEFI. My laptop bios is keyboard only. Does anyone have specific experience with installing SteamOS on a Acer Nitro 5? If you do, could you please share what you did exactly to get SteamOS to install and work.

Mouse control ain't got nothing to do with BIOS/UEFI. You got yourself a UEFI firmware with text-mode setup menu.

If you have options to switch UEFI and secure boot on or off your firmware is definitely UEFI.

Sharing more on this , like at what stage of install process install hangs or what the error message is might help.

SteamOS 2.0 is way too old and unsupported. Its based on Debian 8, while Debian is now at version 11. Don't use it. Wait for SteamOS 3.0 or use another distro.

I can't get past the grub install. It fails every time.
