https://libregamenight.xyz/ has regular events for popular FOSS games.

I'm not sure what image you are using but you should be able to edit the boot options (with tab key?) and type in nomodeset as a kernel option. Here is how someone can do it with ubuntu:

Sounds like an issue with modesetting on your GPU. Look at the docs for your distro of choice on how to set nomodeset as a kernel paramater and see if that works.

We've decided to not host events for games not on steam, although if anyone else wants to we're happy to help get the word out.

It really is a great game! I backed the indiegogo campaign and it's been wonderful to see how far it's progressed.

I ran my own server for a little bit but the super high server system requirements and constant updates were too much of a burden for me.

It would be great to have more servers but I've been playing on another private server for awhile now and I don't think I'm ready to start all over on a new one.

If anyone here has written a review for Fistful of Frags I will add it to Steamlug's curation entry.

This is still somewhat experimental and it's not everything we'd hoped it would be due to limits with the curation system but we'll give it a try and see how things go!

Looks like Sunday did not work out. Also I discovered you can't change the game turn type on a saved game so we'd either have to put up with hybrid desyncs or start a new game. Do you guys want to try to continue again later or should we call it quits on this one and maybe try to setup events for Beyond Earth after Christmas?

Maybe we can try again tomorrow if everyone is on otherwise I'm fine for Sunday 20:00 UTC again.

Well we got a decent start despite the desyncs and Japan attacking me so early :P
Hopefully we can continue without the hybrid mode on and see if that helps.
There's several AI going so if anyone wants to join in they are welcome to take one over next time we play.

I think it would be great if we could continue last year's Haunt game. I would support changing the game engine to something with more native tools but even Source now should be easier to work with if we want to stay with it.
