One Year Cooldown???
So, I didn't realize that there was such an intense cooldown for the family sharing. I accidentally sent and invite to a friend, then asked them to leave the group, but now my brother in law can't be part of the family because the family as a whole is on a one year cooldown. And my brother can't start a new family because all of my current family is on a one year cooldwon.
I reached out to support and they basically said, sucks to suck, go to the forums where you can tell us this is an issue.
Any suggestions or helpful tips?

Leaving a group triggers a 1 year cooldown since joining for the user who left and for the slot in the family group.
Nothing to be done but wait.
Some users hope that Steam will do a one time reset for all cooldowns when the family system leaves BETA and have petitioned Steam for it but if they will do it... who knows.

Is your group full otherwise? Only the one slot should be locked so if you have 4 or less members you should be able to invite one other person.

Also your brother in law can rejoin your family group without any cooldown for him or the slot if you invite him again.
the only tip, if there's enough interest they will implement a system for this exact problem
"As it is rare that a family member leaves the family, each Steam Family slot has a cooldown of one year before a new member can occupy that slot."

hate how presumptuous this sentence is. like yeah Steam sure.

honestly there should be a 7 day grace period before someone "locks in", that would make a lot more sense than "one mistake locks down your account for a whole year lul"
Hmm but what about some changes in the family? Like someone leaves the house or breaks relationship you then have a year cooldown from a person you maybe would like to replace…
Maybe the cooldown could be reconsidered in a lower one like 6 months?
berapa lama akun coldown
A cooldown is definitely required, but a year remains too long. 6 months would be acceptable.

Its 1 year since you joined that group. So if you are a member of a family for lets say 10 months and then leave you only need to wait 2 months before you can join/create another family.
Its to prevent jumping around between different family groups all the time.
But for the rare change to a family group its not that punishing because the cooldown will be short or even nonexistent.
A year since joining a group is a bit better yeah.

Ok so how im understanding this is if im on my gf's family plan, but want to join my bros, i can stay on my gf's for a year and then be free to move right over to my brothers as long as its been year since i joined my gf's? making sure bc this happened where i joined hers and then my bro inivted me (she has 15 games he has 200) so obviously i wanna join his and invite her but i dont want to be off hers if i can be on it while i wait for the change time

That is correct. The cooldown triggers when you leave a family and counts from the moment you joined that previous family, so if you have been a member for 12 or more months you can switch to another family or create your own without any waiting time.

How about the old family slot after we leave to that 1 year sum? Is there any cooldown or without any waiting time also?
weird thing is on my other account it let me leave the family and join another without waiting a year, said something about courtesy or whatever. however this and my other account were in a family and i wanted to move this one to the new family where the other is (plus other people) but i guess it wont let me off without waiting :(.
edit: it let me do the same for this one, said it was a "gesture" from steam support. thanks i guess
