It should be clearer that entering the beta doesn't let you go back to the old sharing

This doesn't actually affect me much, but I was surprised.

I currently just use my account with Family View turned on to limit what my young kids can see/play. It's a bit annoying as I have to enter a PIN and we all share saves, but doesn't cause many issues. I have a PC and a Steam Deck that the kids and I use. This new Family Sharing sounded great, as it would deal with the minor annoyances (sharing saves) and let the kids each play one of my games at the same time.

I joined the Family Sharing beta, created a family, wanted to add child accounts, but didn't realise I would have to set up separate accounts for them and I need to check I can because of the age restrictions on accounts:

In the meantime, I opted back out of the Family Sharing beta so that the Family View PIN came back (I don't want the kids playing grown up games). Doing that now shows a warning banner across the bottom of the screen that:
"You are a member of a Steam Family and need to participate in the Steam Families Beta to enable library sharing on this device"
That doesn't really affect me, as I wasn't sharing any games anyway, but I don't think that it was made clear enough that would happen when I was joining the beta.

Thats because you are still in the family group and that does not work correctly without being in the BETA. If you would leave the group the old sharing would be available again.
It also works the other way around, before this new system i received shared games from 10 other accounts, the allowed max.
I then created a family and added 5 of those to it, the other 5 are not in my family and still share the old way for now, even though i am in the BETA.
So both systems are active at the same time right now.

I suspected that would be the case, but then I wouldn't be able to join a new Steam Family for a year, right?

My normal expectation when using a Beta is that, if it isn't working well for me, I can easily go back to stable without consequences.

Yeah that post of mine is out of date anyway. They changed it yesterday, now the old Family Share does no longer work in tandem with the new one.
Also even leaving the BETA does not restore it unless you completely leave/disband your family group which will indeed trigger the 1 year cooldown.
So yeah, guess everyone who tried the BETA is pretty much stuck with it now.

It wouldn't matter anyway. Once this feature stops being beta soon, the old system will disappear for everyone.

so if i join the beta it wont add there members of the old family share system? dont wanna be stuck there with the old members cuz i wanna add other guys

No it will not automatically add the old Family Share members. You can create a new Family and then send out invites for other users to join it, does not have to be the same ones from the previous family share.
Or you join anothers family group.

No it will not automatically add the old Family Share members. You can create a new Family and then send out invites for other users to join it, does not have to be the same ones from the previous family share.

Only if you leave all families you joined completey and that will trigger the 1 year cooldown before you can create/join another. Since the old family share wont be around for more then a few weeks/maybe a few months till this leaves BETA you then would be stuck with no Family Share at all.

There's no cooldown on rejoining the last family you left as long as there are free slots.

Thats true of course. The cooldown is only for creating a new family or joining a new one.

Im on old method, but i cant join beta version, and even i dont create any family, i cant see option to enable family sharing like older version

cool down should at least be lessened to six-months at most
