Steam Broadcasting no sound
Hey, I came across a problem while sharing. More precisely, I shared the view from the game with another person by inviting them to watch and so far I haven't had a problem, but unfortunately since yesterday there is no sound. And I've already checked the forums and so on and so on and nothing has helped so far. The only thing I've figured out is that the sound must be escaping to some other program because when I mark that it should record sound from all applications on the computer, suddenly there is sound. The only problem is that suddenly it also catches our conversation and I didn't have this before and everything was fine, it only captured sound from the game, without turning on this option. Unfortunately, I still don't know what to do. I reinstalled all the drivers, steam and so on, I also changed the frequency as they wrote on some forum but it didn't help either. Maybe someone had a similar case and can help

Did the game get updated? Is it using several running executables?

The game has not had an update. I also checked it on other games, the result is the same, no sound. As for using it, no.

Ah, if it affects all games — it’s certainly not the norm :(
Sorry, no idea then, hopefully it’s just a new bug that will get fixed soon.

I understand, I've been working on this all day and haven't been able to solve anything. Maybe it's Steam's fault because as I wrote, everything was fine with this sharing so far. Or maybe someone else will have an idea what else it could be.

If it happened on Wednesday — good chance that it’s caused by Steam update. Have you tried switching Steam client to beta or out of beta btw?

Yes I changed to beta version and back, I also reinstalled steam (I didn't remove it)

we're having the same problem across all games we've tried. client audio suddenly disappeared not just for broadcasts, but Remote Play Together sessions as well. no problems until the Steam update.

Try making a ticket to Support then unless there’s a better place where they accept feedback

I just came here to see if there was anyone with a solution. I have the EXACT same issue. my sister and I play and watch each other's games daily. This just started for us a little over a week ago as well. She cannot hear my game sound unless I use the from all sources option, which sucks because then we hear our voices multiple times and it gives me a headache. I've uninstalled steam and put it back and so has she. it is also across all games. so yeah it's an issue and a big one because this is one of the main ways we play and do things together.

Nope, sounds that only old version of Steam could help IF it was possible to install it. But since they say both release and beta branches of Steam are affected — oops.

I am trying to watch my friend play and there is no sound as well. I wonder if this has something to do with the update that allows Steam users to record their gameplay. It might be interfering with something, maybe diverting the audio stream away somehow.

Fixed a regression in audio capture for Remote Play Together
Try beta branch now.

thanks so much, from me and my sister, we both tried this and we can now hear each other again! ( We still have one other issue, on another post -- flashing, must invite her to watch), but this helped with the no sound perfectly!

I discovered i have same issue.

No audio in broadcast unless i check to record audio from all applications
which is fine, i am not normally talking, except then you hear steam notifications and such.

I know it used to work.
Thought it was my PC, till we tested it on like every PC we had handy and same result regardless of who was broadcasting.

Since the beta seemed to work for XxVhiixX, maybe it will roll out to public soon.
Is a little annoying to run beta cause it updates constantly..

I wonder when this issue started, and why there are not more complaints about it
I know some people broadcast all the time, unless they all do it via open broadcast via RTMP?
I suppose that is possible, i dont generally broadcast to the general public, usually just to show a friend something.

Remote play and steam link/stream play is totally fine, just the broadcasting is messed up a bit.

Oh well, at least I can stop contemplating dismantling my PC.

I thought it was odd that i could stream to discord fine
Same issue. Nobody can hear my streams since this week's update. Guessing there's an exclusivity conflict between Recording and Broadcasting where Recording is not allowing Broadcasting to take control of audio capture from the game window, even when turned off.
