No chat box in-game, and nothing shows up in overlay

So this might be a common problem, but I haven't seen any other thread addressing it in the couple minutes I took to browse this forum before posting.

When I choose the option in the steam settings under broadcast that enables a chat box in one of the four corners of the screen while you're in-game, it does not show up when I'm in the game and streaming.

In addition to that, the chat box you can open in the overlay so you don't have to have the stream open in a tab while playing to see comments, doesn't work. Nothing shows up on it.

I have to stream my own stream while playing, to see and reply to comments, which I think might be eating up some of my bandwidth (though I'm not 100% sure about that).

I had my stream open earlier to try the broadcasting feature out, and I never saw the chat in-game even though by default its set to top-left. I did have the overlay chat though, so Idk. Maybe try restarting steam or your PC and trying again?

Oh, so that little chat box you're prompted to open when you start streaming does work for someone? Good to note.

It apparently doesn't work for me though, as it's something I've tried using multiple times.

I have a similar problem, however when i open up the overlay it doesn't even give me an option for chat or any broadcasting tabs. In turn i cant get to chat in game. I can broadcast and watch broadcasts fine but i cant talk with my peeps unless i plug in my mic.

I have uninstalled an re-installed the client and restarted my pc, but nothing seems to work. Any insight on this would be helpful, it coule be as simple as checking or unchecking a box but i am stumped.

I have this issue as well, and is, in fact, the reason I came to these boards.

I had had this issue as well. people who are broadcasting the same games as I do are able to chat with me in game when Im watching. They tell me they see my chat while playing in the upper left corner and respond. They never leave the game to talk in chat. I can open the overlay and see a chat box there, but I can never see any chat messages in game like others do. Its very irritating.

December 2023 this is the first hit on Google. Chat-windows still doesn't show in-game. No notifications, nothing.
